Yes
Mostly it's get what you can I'm afraid. Try for 75% - 95% of the rates published and see how you get on.
More often they will just tell you what they will pay!

fair enough, A5 leaflet, public information, just checked circulation about 40000 max, rates on NUJ are between £90 and £150 for Low/High budget for 1/8th page. £120 sound about right?

I'd be happy at that - but there is no hard and fast rule - just be prepared to have to negotiate a little - if you have to! Good luck - let's know how it goes.

Thanks for the help

It would be great if there was a UK equivalent of fotoquote...

It would but . . . .

here's a tip - click on www.alamy.com - pick ANY picture - it opens in a new window - and then answer the questions about the useage - and it calculates a price for you.

Interesting!!
I just did this and it came out with £85, compare to £120 the NUJ said I should expect. So, judging by this, the NUJ may be a bit out-of-date?

Depends on all the answers you give - we don't know the real ones - I did it and got £250 !! Remember if the client bought from Alamy the photographer would only get 50% of the fee.

I tried it and got £175. Just goes to show that there's no hard and fast rule, use these things as a guide and haggle :)

Well you're the only one with the correct info - but if you got £175 - and you asked for £120 - you should be good at that!

AH, no sorry that wasn't worded well at all, I meant I tried the Alamy pricing :D

sorry - I wasn't making myself clear either - I meant if Alamy calculations gave you £175 - then £120 would be acceptable to the client surely - and you'd still get more than if it was a sale through Alamy - or any other library! Is that better? Sorry! :)
