manage to take a photo that really makes your heart sing?

In the 2 1/2 years I've been using my DSLR I've only managed it a handful of times. I normally get a few keepers everytime, but shots that make me go :love: are few and far between.

Discus please ;)

Never.
I have a horrible ability to find fault in absolutely anything.

I think it depends on what you want from photography.

For me, its a hobby, but its bordering on a passion, (if that makes sense).

So i get an idea in my head of an image then i go out and try and source that image.
I'm always looking at other peoples work and getting inspiration and idea's, researching techniques and equipment that will give me what i want.

I consistantly get images that make my heart sing, weather they are right in terms of technical abillity is a different matter, which is why i post them up here.

Same here, at first i find my photos looking good, i look at them again after a while, i realize they werent good. I think this attitude is good in a way, cse it pushes you to keep on improving in photography.

I agree with that, although i like what i take at the time, after a while, i see the things that i can improve on, this is why i only keep the good photo's and get rid of the rest.

Its a bit like driving round the Nurburgring, you only want to improve on your best lap, not your worst.

Very rarely, and on the rare occasions I have had it was with one taken of my little one :), so hardly an unbiased judgement call :)

This too as my "house models" are just too beautiful for words

I think we can all be a bit too critical of our own work - I'm as guilty as anyone else.

Sometimes I get ones that really make think 'wow' but more often I get ones that make other people go 'wow', which kinda proves the above I suppose.

Those that really make me smile and go 'Yeah, got it", is around 1 every 500!

But I'm getting more critical, so the number of good shots (IMHO) shots may reduce. Unless I improve!

I'm probably a bit critical on myself too. I've probably been taking photos for roughly the same time as you Sarah and feel pretty much the same. Have probably taken two that I am really, really happy with.

My keeper rate is improving though and I really should remember that I'm still very much at the beginning of a huge (and enjoyable) learning curve.

i got some of my favourite images when in my first year of owning my DSLR, I think after a while of shooting your standards get higher and so half the images you thought were good 1 or 2 years back are probably shocking by your 'new' standard today.

ooohh interesting question, personally 1 maybe 2 each month or so but lately i have been getting 1 maybe 2 a week on average.

I can't believe the negatives here, almost everytime I have the camera in my hand I love what it can do. Obviously my standards are low

My hit rate is lower with digital than with film. With film - as I'm a cheapskate - I'd take more time to set up the picture. With digital I take more and discard those that aren't so good.
