How not to use a Leica

Hmm, I guess that's a good reason for me not to get a Rangefinder, the amount of times I do that with my SLRs/GH1 is unbelieveable!

We've all done it with a DSLR.

You've really stood there for a whole minute or so, trying to manually focus a black screen, without checking your lens cap? lol.

I leave the lens cap on all the time, I realise in a split second and take it off. Even that's embarrassing, let alone standing there for an age like this goon:cuckoo:

You do realise that the M6 is a rangefinder camera, not an SLR?

Leave the cap on and you won't notice any difference - you see the scene through the viewfinder exactly as you would without the lens cap.

It's easy to mock the guy, but TBH, it's an easy enough mistake to make.

Nope never used one lol, so now I look just as stupid!

What does he keep looking at then? He's obviously getting some indication that somethings not right?

It does have TTL metering, which would provide a clue that something's up if you were looking for it.

It's possible he may be shooting full manual and eyeballing his exposure and wondering why the camera's metering isn't registering what he thinks it should be.

e2a: it's an over/under on the spot type display in the viewfinder - i.e. > o <

The left hand arrow flashes if there's not enough light.

The number of times I've done this with my Holga and not realised until after I've walked away :bonk:

yeah ! I suppose you could achieve the same results with the TLR's :D well, at least the ones that have 2 caps.

Not guilty! It's just so obvious when the viewfinder's simply empty.

I'll admit to having left caps on rangefinders and P&Ses but never on an SLR (or at least never tried to take a picture with trhe cap still on.)

Come on. Most of us have done it at least once. :shake:

We just don't get our mates to video and u-tube it!

I think you'll find that that's an automatic feature of the holga, designed to improve the shot! ;)

Not with an SLR! Got a couple like this from my Lomo Fisheye which has a semi translucent cap with a sticker on the inside...

Look, if you haven't done it yet, then one day YOU WILL.

(Its a bit like having a follow through! Like it or not, one day, you will)!

And Kate Moss looks remarkably like Vicky Beckham in that picture.

I'd guess TTL notification as well - you'll still get the 'ghost' image from the parallax system visible...(I just ran downstairs and checked if mine did...lol)

TBH, after a couple of times on a rangefinder, you reco0gnise the symptoms of the forgotten lens cap and can often snatch it off before anyone else spots what you've done!

I used to just leave mine off and hide it somewhere safe...do you know how much a bloody Leica lens cap costs...?
I don't mind paying over a grand for a camera body, but £30 for a lens cap seemed a tad excessive...

HAHA

Isn't the M9 digital ?

In which case shouldn't he be getting an image on the rear screen ?

I don't know Leica's, so I'm only guessing..

Steve

According to the title of the clip, it's an M6 not an M9 so is a film camera - not many of those have review screens.

As they say 'All the gear and no idea'. There but for the grace of God.......

Video says he was using an M6 though.

See, I told you I knew nothing about Leica's

 tool

Reminds me a similar incident during TP meet at Chester zoo when a non member sauntered up to photograph the spectacled bears with his 1D

rattle rattle rattle and at least 10 frames went through before he relaised that the cap was still on.

So much light gets in around the casing, it probably doesnt matter!
