Yes
Works getting busier and its getting to the point where i need to employ someone. My net profits were only £34k last year so it doesn't leave me with much room to pay a lot, however once someone is in place it should free up time for me to try new products and pay for its self. There job would be picking and packing only. What sort of salary do you think i's looking at?

In this day and age you will get a que willing to do this for minimum wage (and ya cant go lower so)

You'll have trouble finding an "unskulled" employee
But seriously, you'll find no problem, hiring someone at minimum wage.

just dont advertise for a pecker and poker

No problem what so ever i would think. Maybe think about an older person that may need to get out more i know my Father in law didn't want to retire and wishes he could still work. not always about the money.

The problem i have is i work from home is it odd to expect someone to work in a spare room in the house with me or do i need to look at premises first?

My old boss did that with 4 of us working there spilled into the kitchen but he started on his own and kept adding.. now world wide company.

poor spelling is as bad as putting a question in the wrong section

;)

You have 2 options - apprentice will save you money but requires them to learn the whole job (look into it) or minimum wage.

An excellent idea particularly if you don't want/need anyone full time.
Also if you get a retired person or someone whose NI contributions are at maximum ( 40 years or whatever the figure is now) provided you pay them below a certain level ( about £90/wk) neither you nor they will be liable for NI you just have to juggle the hours accordingly to ensure you comply with minimum wage legislation.

Could i add they maybe able to do the job at their home if the was suitable

is that some sort of way of saying I spelt que wrong?

You spelled que perfectly. It was just the wrong word!!!

Que - Spanish and French for that (and a few other pronouns).

Queue - a line of people (or cars).

Steve.

He knows nothing...

Queue, also a hairstyle?

Some good tips. I think i would prefer someone older.

Or two older persons job sharing. This increases the likelihood of coming under the NI threshold and will also assist when you need cover for holidays - yours and theirs.

My only thought about doing this at home is making sure you're covered re insurances and with the council. Some councils still get shirty about commercial activities being undertaken in residential homes. If you are a member of the FSB, ask them. And if you're not - consider it.

oh tut tut... employee rights and EO act etc.... you may get the 18 year old homosexual buddist one legged blind albino mexican (with a uk work permit) dwarf apply and you cannot discriminate on any of those...:lol:

Possibly on the blind, especially if he/she/it needs to be able to pick the orders by sight alone.

yes and no - you can't overtly discriminate , but if you don't like them as a candidate you can merely feedback " the standard of applications was very high and we regret that on this occasion you have been unsuccessful" and then pick someone older - so long as the older person isn't demonstrably less qualified for the job you'll be fine

I dont know nif the law has changed.. but descrimination (men women at least) only counted if you already employed X amount of people... eg you could advertise for men or women only (descrimination) if you employed less than I think it was 15 ..

I'm not 100% sure but that doesn't sound right to me. I think under the equality act 2010 you can only specify like that if its an occupational requirement. e.g a theatre compny could reasonably claim it needed a woman for a specific role, or a job may require a certain level of physical ability and therefore not be discriminating if they don't hire people without it.

Do this.

Also check your household insurance and business insurance for employee / third-party liability cover. If someone is working in your house, trips over a loose carpet / discarded child's toy / household pet and breaks his neck, you don't want to be on the hook for compensation.

Thus thread should really be in 'Talk Business'. I'll ask for it to be moved.

Only if the business is specifically photography and I am not sure Roberts is. In which case, better here as all manner of people will see it who might not otherwise venture in to the business section.

Yes its not photography related business.

Well i little update.

I was at the stage i didn't have the time to pack all my items and list new ones and had hit a bit of a wall. I was considering finding a employer, but was worried if i could afford it. Well i've got some good news i've found a company who will create my ebay listings for me (i hated doing this anyway) for just 20p a listing for no variations and 30p with! Not only that he's designed me a nice template to use to make them look a bit more professional.

I've got them listing over 2000 products at the moment, in daily blocks of 100 for me to check then list myself via turbo lister. I've been averaging 200 a month, so would have taken me a year to list them all. 2000 new items in time for Christmas, I'm chuffed to bits!
