Why not look on eBay and see how much they go for? When I wanted to buy a used D70, that's what I did.
 
Hi that a good idea, he thought someone on here my have a good guide in case someone tries to rip him off, he inherited it from his father who only used it a couple or times before he died,

I'm sure that the 70s was designed without the filter in front of the sensor, which allows it to take IR images, one of the few DSLRs that do this, so should be a good selling point and increase the value in some cases to the right person

No,it still has the filter, but it is less aggressive in filtering out IR than the newer cameras. You still need to use a filter for IR work with a standard D70s, however, it is one of the few Nikons that can be easily DIY converted and it also one of the few Nikons that can flash sync up to it's maximum shutter speed (1/8000 iirc), as against the normal 1/250 :D
