How much RAM?

Yes
I'm guessing how much ram you have in your system does depend on what you use it for.
I'd still be interested to know how much people have though.
The numbers are so big these it's mind boggling. I can recall the days when RAM was specified in mb.

I have a mac and currently have 32gb installed. Personally I think that's overkill but it's what I could get at the time.

I have the same in mine 32 gig

funnily enough, my first computer had 4 meg in it and I upgraded that to 8 meg and it cost a fortune, but that was back in 1991

Depends what you are using the machine for, but generally 32gb on a Mac is more than adequate. Saying, that, I have 40gb in mine, but that's only because I had a couple of modules lying around when I bought the thing. And I'm reliably informed that the new Macs with the M1 chip run very happily on 8gb.

My first computer had 1K - which was plenty at the time. ;)

Currently I have 16G, but could do with more . . .

I'm so old I can remember the LP sized floppy disks.

Ram was almost used like a currency in those days.
I remember independent retailers bought the stuff for cash.

LOL! My first hard drive was only 5Mb and that was enormous. :ROFLMAO:
I remember the giant Seagate ones that sounded like a shot wheel bearing.

I have 64gb in my desktop and 16gb in my laptop.

The first two mainframes I worked on had 128kb and 4Mb respectively.
My M1 Mac Mini has 16Gb and is superb, my iMac has 16Gb too and is fine, but the Win10 work laptop has 64Gb which is excessive - but it will become my Photoshop pc soon

32GB.

32Gb here too. What's almost as important is having an SSD, the read/write times are so much faster than the old 5,400 and 7,200 multiplate hard drives. I used to do a fair bit of video rendering at work a few years ago and short "how-to" videos (3.4 mins in length) would take hours to render on a PC with HDDs, compared to minutes with SSDs.

Another 32Gb here, but the real question we should be asking is what GPU and how much RAM in that ? I, like many have a basic NVidia with 4Gb RAM that gets overwhelmed when graphic processing, something you do a lot of if you spend time on a photography forum, I know mine does. I could lash out on a "gamer" video card which would likely improve system performance, but I'm too mean. If you want to see what's happening with yours, GPU Temp is a lightweight app that monitors it for you if you can find it, it is linked at the site http://www.gputemp.com/ but DISCAIMER: approach it as you would any odd program on the Internet, just because I've told you about it does not make it the same one as I have been running safely for years.

Just upgraded from 8Gb to 16Gb princely sum of £29 for an 8GB SODIMM laptop module. wish I had done so a lot sooner.

Don’t forget the op is on a Mac therefore a different graphics card is off the table.

16GB in the laptop at home, 64GB in the desktop at work. Most of the machines I run serious jobs on there have 64GB or 128GB, with up to 48 cores each, but there are some real monster systems available. I think one has 12TB of RAM (!).

64Gb in my windows computer but it is at least eight years old.

Jeez... my home laptop has 8gb (also has SSD) and it’s most onerous task is photo editing with affinity which is no problem.
Do i win a prize ??
I had a ZX81 as a kid which had 1k and remember the excitement of getting a 1k expansion pack.

16K? I once had the cool low-profile Memotech version:

No it wasn’t an official one. A neighbour who was an electronics engineer made it for me.
I remember my uncle, who had a TV shop and repair business, helping me to upgrade a 16K Spectrum to 48K with some RAM chips bought from a small ad in a computer magazine - I didn't dare push the chips in hard enough!

32Gb in my laptop with a 512Gb m.2 drive and a 1Tb SSD.

Ah yes, you can tell I'm not ;) Not only off the table, but quite possibly not needed on the table, as it started off with a decent spec, even a Macbook air is better specced than many Win x86. Video processing and VRAM is the poor neglected boy at the table, though, if only because those that don't do graphics won't miss it.

My mac is fitted with a Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6.
Not that that means much to me.
The processor is an i7 8core 3.8GHz. Once again, just numbers to me.

I have a 13" M1 MBP with 16GB.
Haven't used it for stacking stuff just yet which is where I need tons of RAM but for regular LR and topaz stuff it works very well.

16 Gb RAM here, does all I need to do!

I’ve 32gb in my MacBook Pro which is plenty for what I do as the ram works in a more efficient way in the new macs
I don’t have a full understanding of how these things work but the new software for example DXO etc work in a different way and depend on the gpu more
