How much RAM in a MacBook Pro?

Late in on this one but, do you need the portability of a laptop?
If not, a 27" iMac is probably a better option.

Just sayin!

I often take the lappie with me for tethered shoots away from home, so, yeah...otherwise I would definitely go for an iMac! Just can't afford to buy both that and a new lappie, unfortunately.

My Dell XPS came with 16GB RAM in 2014, and even my late 2008 unibody Macbook is running 8GB and a 256GB SSD (still dog-slow because core 2 duo).

+1. My '14 has 8GB and while adequate for a typical light user it is not much fun for serious multi-layer Photoshop or Lightroom work. I'd say 16gb min and 32 would be ideal.

I find it even harder to understand the logic behind shipping imacs with old HDDs and charging so much extra for even the smallest basic SSD. Needles to say the prices are outrageous at £2.4K (up from 1.6-1.7 4yr ago) for base spec 15: MBP.

I wouldn't know, I buy ex business lonovo x1 carbons with SSD drives and 1440p touch screens for £200.
Apple can go swivel
