How much memory

Im lloking for a new SD card for my Nion D50.I tried an 8gb card but it wouldnt work.Is there a limit to size of card the D50 will use? Where is the best place and what sort of write/reads speeds should i be lookimg for?

Some cameras have a limit to the amount of memory they can take.

I only ever use 2 gigabyte memory cards - Sandisk Extreme 3's.

Its better 2 have 4 2gig cards then 1 8gig, 8gig breaks you lose the lot, 2gig breaks you only 25% of ya images!

and lock them so you dont inadvertently put them back in and overwrite thinkin there empty

Moot point with a D50, as it doesn't take SDHC cards - 2GB is the biggest you can get for it anyway

The other Nikon DSLRs that use SD cards (D40/D40x and D80) will take SDHC cards though. And as for cards breaking, I've never had one break on me yet - they are surprisingly tough solid-state memory devices. I'd be dubious about the long-term quality of cheapo ones, but I generally only use Sandisk ExIII's and Kingston cards (SD and CF) anyway...

A card bigger than 2GB could work with the D50 if you formatted it to FAT32 (using e. g. a card reader, D50 can't do this).

I bought a 8 GB off amazon recently because it was a ridiculous price Sandisk at £16.99 I think and then though, if this card dies on me, I'm screwed!!

I've broken 3 SD cards (they were used as storage on my mobile phone).

I use 5 x 2gb cards. 1 in camera nad 4 in a hard storage case thingy. When I swap cards I will place the full one upside down in the case, so that I don't use it again.
