how much is a Second hand Canon 50 1.8 MK1 worth?

Has a metal mount (as opposed to the plastic of the MkII) No idea about the optics though.

They're probably worth, dependant on the age and condition, about the £50ish mark i'd presume?

They've got such things as better build quality, metal mount, distance meter etc, whilst look at the mk2, it's 99% plastic.

For the price, it's probably worth getting one, and seeing what it's like, and comparing the two yourself.

Neither are goign to be expensive, and whilst the mk2 is absolutely sublime for the money, i'm presuming that there was something to improve on, as they brought out a mk2.

my understanding is that the mk.2 was made deliberately cheaper to stop it stealing sales of the more expensive 1.4. Although optically the mk1 & mk2 are niegh on identical.

Hi Recently watched three go on eBay. All around the £100 mark.
I have one and it's a cracker.

I would be surprised it they really justify the £50 premium over the mk2 the metal mount and slightly better construction certainly wouldn't do it for me. Given that I've seen 1.4's go for £180 I'd say thats the one to get if you are planning on spending more than the £50 odd quid a second hand nifty will cost you.

I haven't tried a MK II, but I have the Mk I 50mm f1.8 and I must say the optical quality is very good. It is slightly better image quality than my 17-40L lens, brighter and smaller! I believe the Mk II was more of a cost cutting exercise than improvement, hence the higher second hand prices of the Mk I.
