Right, with the arrival of the summer holidays, and a huuuuuge new TV, I'm after a playstation 3. I've found my old PS2 (the slimline one) in a cupboard, and I know it's not worth very much, but I'm not sure what would be the best to do with it!

What would be the best option do we think? I know a lot of shops will offer a trade-in type thing, but I know they will offer a fairly minute sum, does anyone know? It's all absolutely pristine, boxed etc, but I don't know how to get the maximum value for it! As far as I can see, I have 2 options:

1. Trade it in against a PS3, possibly get virtually no value for it.
2. Sell it on here/eBay, maybe get a little more?

Does anyone know the amounts that shops like Game etc will offer for trade-in? Anyone got any experience of this?

Chris

A slimline is probably worth around £35 - £45. Not many people are after PS2's really so it might be hard to sell.

3. Save it as a backup when the PS3 goes pop :)

Hmm, that's more than I was thinking! I'm guessing that's for a private sale? Any idea how much a shop would offer in part ex?

No, no, no, not what I want to hear! I didn't think reliability was an issue?

I'll give you six beans for your PS2. :D

But being serious now. If I've got something I want to sell privately but aren't too sure how much I want for it, I'll look for any similiar items in Ebay and see how much they are worth as a "Buy It Now". :)

Thanks for the advice so far guys! I've looked at ebay for a rough idea, but some come with a million games, some with assorted bits and bobs, and it's hard to get an idea of a price!

Do you reckon I'll get a better deal selling, or as a part ex?

Hmmm, off to the shops tomorrow then I guess to see how much I could get if I part ex, thanks for the input guys!

there may be a cheaper slimline ps3 coming later in the year....the launch model is pretty good with reliability, certainly far far far better than the early xbox360, not sure if the new 360 has cured these problems or if it still pops..

CEX offer between 25 and 40 quid for a PS2 as a trade-in, depending on which model/colour it is. You could go there and use the value towards a S/H PS3. CEX give warranties on the stuff they sell. The first batch of PS3s had backward compatibility for some PS2 games built in as well so you could possibly still play some of your PS2 games on it if you wanted to. The B/C PS3s sell for a little more though.

I've had six 360s since launch. :)

Thanks for the advice guys, in the end I traded in my PS2, got a launch model 60GB PS3, and have all my old games that run perfectly :D

I was using the supplied 3 plug cable for a day while waiting for my HDMI lead to arrive, now it has, and WOW. I like HD gaming :D
