Yes
Hello,

I have already asked this in another thread, but it got lost.

I have received a phone call asking how much would I want to send a 10 x 8 print of one of my photos.

How much would you charge please (incl P&P).

Thanks.

As much as it's worth?

Prices can vary from a couple of quid to hundreds but I think on average they settle around the £10 mark but check prices on websites for local pros as a guide.

depends what kind of print! is it an 'art print' (something you sell a limited number of), or from a portrait sitting, etc.? Well I keep my 8x10 print prices at £6 each, plus £.95 postage if its for anything other than an art print.

Thanks,

It is this picture (no, not the one of me :D )

Do you think £25 is too much? It is just for Joe Public for him to hang on his wall.

The truth is it's worth as much as someone's willing to pay so you need to ask yourself if they'd pay that rather than what it's worth.

If you mean that you took the one of the scenery (presuming you aint tryin to sell the publication clipping :D!), then £25 is normal, to make it sound better, usually togs say 1 of 50 numbered ltd. prints, etc.

If you're saying it's a limited edition it better had be or trading standards might want a word :(

lol i sell ltd. ed. art prints and number the backs of them and sign them, easy.

But do you only ever sell x number of the print, never to be sold again? Or is it purely a marketing gimmick?

I'd say £25 sounds just fine JB, especially considering the amount of setup involved.... you could add a line explaining the slightly higher costs possibly.

Higher cost than what though?

Higher than another local tog who has the same massive pole with a camera on maybe, but if none, then no-one can have that same shot can they?

£25 is fine

I know one tog who charges £24 for a 6x4, but then only £27 for a 7x5" and £30 for a 10x8" - his basis is time rather than material as every image is individually assessed whatever it's size

On that basis JB, tell him £25 for a 10x8" but only £35 for a much more exciting 16x12" - makes the bigger one look a bargain and you still make more

No indeed, I agree.

JB could quite easily justify higher prices for the exclusive nature of his high views ...nowt wrong with that, but at inevitably it comes down to what the client will or wont pay.

it can work either way. i took some photos for someone local once and printed the one he wanted 10x8. when he asked me how much i wanted i told him ah dont worry just give me a fiver to cover printing and the mount etc and he thought i was taking the ****. he was expecting to pay around £2 to £3 at the most :(
