How much editing can you do with JPEG?

I shot a load of images from years back which i'd like to process. What are the problems with processing a JPEG image like you would a raw? What are the do's and do not's!

Surely there is some margin for processing...alot of the graphic world works in JPEG and manipulate them...is this not the case with photography?

You'll get away with a bit of tweaking jpegs, though it's important to remember that they do not have the depth of information that a raw file does.

Every time you save as a jpeg you have a loss in quality.

So if you're planning on saving more than once convert to tiff. at least for the interim saves.

While I prefer to shoot in RAW I have found a lot of fun carrying out edits on other people's images. I don't post them, but it does help the learning process.

In Photoshop CS, with jpegs, I can usually produce a significant improvement in image quality.

Don't save one jpeg on top of the other. Give it a slightly different file name, even if it only results in adding an a, or b, or c to the end of the file name.
