According to the Bath And North East Somerset Council it will cost £190,000 per pitch to build a site for 13 'Travellers', a total cost of over £2.4 million!
The average cost across the rest of the UK is reportedly £63,000 per pitch.

Ah... but is the pitch above or below water?
More seriously, it does sound rather expensive.

I can say definitively that the engineering cost of creating a caravan site from a bare field is about £25-40k depending on how much drainage is needed. Added to that you've got the purchase price of the land - however that's for tourist camping.

the reason traveller sites cost so much is that no one wants them near them (generally with good reason) and thus there's normally a shed load of compensation and/or section 106/CIL to get them through the planning process. Often there is also litigation. This is what pushes the average cost up so dramatically

The other point is that 'traveller site' is a bit of an oxymoron - if you're a traveller the point is to travel not to live in a caravan on a site in one place - if you don't you can pee off onto either the council housing list, or private rental.

it cost me about £50 to makes the gates to get mine in the side garden ,does that count :coat::wacky:

Interesting this thread coming up only a few weeks ago a local council announced it was spending and extraordinary around on regenerating an existing site, so not purchase of land order planning/litigation etc for this about 10 pitch site and its costing well into 7 figures  I'd love to know how, someone clearly has some really well padded tenders in place to do the works as I seriously doubt actual costs would come even close to £150,000

The council apparently owns the land already so that figure shouldn't even be in the cost.

It probably is in that and a large percentage as they probably got a massive grant to cover it, a council selling land from one department to another wouldn't surprise me if it mean a big chunk of cash getting diverted to the budget ;)
