How much do you spend on average a year on equipment?

I don't care to add it up... but I'm in my first year, that's my excuse :)

It's a bit compulsive for me, I like always need stuff.

My want list consists of;
Canon 40D (then using the 350D as back up)
a Polaroid Camera
Nifty Fifty Lens
New Camera Bag
ND Filters
4 Gig SD & CF Cards.

Sigh. My Dads a Photographer too, so I spend a fair bit on him on his Kit. Can't escape it, ah well :D

Budget for next year:
400 per month for studio x12 months= 4,800
around 2000 for a new (used d3 probably) body and possibly stretch it for a 12-24 f2.8 as well
about 500 an sb800 and bits
travel and lens hire get charged as expenses to my clients.
total that at 7,300 quid.

This year, bout £250? I just needed some filters, a new tripod head and a new bag, everything else is sorted, i surpose you cant give a yearly average, eg. 'i spend 3k a year on my equiptment', because it differs massively depending on if you don't need anything, or you just dropped your D3 :|.

yeah, but are you sure you dont?:lol::lol: You never know when it'll come in handy..............:D

I like the way you think:lol:

GBP 4.5K on three bodies and I would rather not talk about the rest as my wife might just see this...

I started back in SLR photography last year with a Nikon D40x kit (on cashback) , Lowepro bag, spare batteries, SD cards, filters, ..., for about £550 all up.

I have added a Nikon 70-300 VR zoom lens at £300 since then.

Having had a very enjoyable year with it, and having looked at where I want to be with photography, I will probably add a D300 body and either the Nikon 300mm f/4, or the 300mm f/2.8 VR.

This will give a higher usable ISO, 6400 for the D300, compared to 1600 for the D40x. The prime 300mm f2.8 lens will give me more stops over the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom, and better contrast/definition.

Motorosport and aviation are my main subjects, and the additional camera/lens combination opens up some possibilities that have been hard to cover with the existing kit.

The next year's spend could come to over £4000.

For me 2008 has been mainly sorting out lenses so about £1200, next year I'll probably spend about the same again on a new body and maybe a bit more on a 'blad if interest rates stay low.

The only other big photography spends this year were Lightroom 2.0 and my C&G course.

I'm off on a landscape course next week (birthday present) but that is someone elses money, it helps having a Dad who is into photography too...

£1700 this year so far - need to have a word with the insurance man, cant remembered how much i'm covered for!

Awaits post from a certain Canon user called Bob .....................:)

Spent £1600 - 300 f/4, 85 f/1.4, a new 50 f/1.8. Sold £1400 - 70-200 f/2.8, 10-20, Sigma DP1, Nikkor 60 Micro [which I regret now..] Works out about the same as hiring a lot of the stuff I no longer have. May well decide on the D700. An eye-watering outlay, but nothing compared to the house I'll be buying this week..

I joined up to photography in September and think I've spent around £1400 already. Although it would have been even more if the lens prices hadn't shot up. Means I get around a year or so to save up for a couple more L lenses though.

It is about as expensive as my other hobby mountain biking where I generally spend £2k per year.

Choccy...

I don't spend anything . . . . I invest! :D

What I need to spend to achieve what I want.:)

The camera was a birthday pressie in June, and I've spent about £300 since then. I could quite easily spend loads more.

Who's still shuddering from the thought :'(

I'm not going add it up but it amounts to a 600/4, 300/2.8, 50D and a used 1D2 along with a couple of carbon tripods and Wimberley2.

So far since October 08 I would of spent around £750 once I get my redsnapper, by the end of this year I want to get another lens and possibly a few other essentials but max will be £1000 I hope lol

Not a lot this year, probably less than £400 but I've only just started thinking about doing it professionally this year. I was looking at a load of stuff online that I want to buy next year and its looking to cost around.... £2300ish

Not a nice prospect for a 17 year old with a part time job

Just picked up a used 100-400 for £620. And a 40D body earlier in the year. I tend to make one expensive lens purchase a year. And only if it achieves something that I can`t do with existing kit.

In the last year

1 x 1dmk3
1 x 400mm EF L IS F/2.8
1 X 24-105 L F/4.0
2 X 70-200 L F/2.8
1 X NIFTY 50
2 X 40D's
1 X 17-400 L F/4.0
1 X 70-200 L F/2.8 IS
1 X 300 L IS F/2.8
1 X NIFTY 50

Bought all those in the last 6-9 months, sold some on but still own the top five listed plus a 1DMK11

£190 in the last 2 months inc my current s5800. I have managed to sell photo's making me £85 so far in the last 2 weeks :) so all in all it has cost me £105 so far. I hope to have this cleared by Christmas where I will be investing in a 350d and a 75-300 lens :)

Even with this purchase and some extra's I still should sell more than enough photo's to clear the cost. At the moment I am on a very tight budget and working on the principle of "invest in new stuff when needed, sell photo's to cover the cost and then buy new stuff again to increase my sales more".

Including 24" iMac, D700, 24-70, 70-200 and a load of other stuff well over £6k
only really lusting for 1 more lens 400f2.8 or 600f4 but that will have to wait

and now to work out how to use it all

I have bought the following - 40D Body brand new, 24-105 L sec hand, 17-40 L sec hand, a few CF cards, a Velbon Tripod and a Manfrotto Head.

I have sold the following - 400D body, Sigma 24-70mm.

So have spent a bit but sold a bit as well.

i've added £900 to my previous total this week, not good lol

another 200 at christmas and thats it for a while
