i've had my 5d2 since may 22 and the file number is now 5551 (i started with a new card so this number is accurate) is this excessive?

i think it works out at about 115 shots per day :nuts:

i don't keep that many images, some are just experimentation, working out what works, what doesn't and some are just out of focus etc.

i'm not a pro togger by the way...i mainly shoot at weekends.
 
its too much of an open ended question.. nobodies circumstances are the same..
 
I've had my D300 nearly a year and taken about 3200 shots. I take it to work every single day but hardly ever end up using it, my bag weighs a ton ! is that dedication ? :nuts:
I must admit it's not insured so i don't like leaving my kit in the house but really, i might drive off somewhere before going home.
 
Nowhere near enough. Struggling for motivation at the moment.
 
I suppose it means you bought the 5Dmk2 to use rather than look at and moan about !

I thnk it all depends on what you are taking Cuthbert. For example, if you are shooting motor sports or models then your frame count will be naturally higher, whereas for general stuff, landscapes etc.. then possibly not.
A question to ask yourself is whether or not the majority of your shots are useable? If a higher percentage end up being deleted then maybe slow down a bit and get that shot 100% accurate in camera
 
As already said it all depends. I took 791 shots in about 20 minutes a couple of weeks ago. All to get just one image, lol.

When I got out street shooting I can be out 2 to 5 hours and shoot anywhere from a couple of hundred shots to several hundred.

When I do a portrait shoot it varies from maybe 50-ish for a simple session to several hundred for a days shoot with different shots and wardrobe changes being done.
 
I used to shoot anything and everything when i first got into photography but as time has gone by and i have become better (hopefully) i tend to take less photos but those i do take are where my interests lie.
I went for a half day on the norfolk broads this afternoon and took maybe 100-150 images where as before i may well have taken anything up to 500.
 
When i shoot personal stuff not that much i will not bother shooting just for the sake of shooting. Work on the other hand it can be 500, 2000 or just 20 in a day it depends what exactly i am doing.
 
I'm pretty restrained on the shutter. I have a 2GB card which holds 120 raw files and I can't recall ever filling it. I love my film camera and the process of shooting once and (hopefully) getting it right gets transferred across to digital too. I don't like the spray and pray approach some people use. It just seems as though they're foregoing skill in favour of chance.

In hindsight i've probably picked entirely the wrong username :lol:

Yeah, sometimes I can take less than 10 photos on a 'togging day', where some would probably take hundreds or even thousands. The thing is though, most if not all of what I did take are keepers!
 
I'm doing a 365 currently and my poor little shutter is screaming for the end.

But I could shot 1 shot a day or 300, it just depends on how the day pans out...
 
Varies. If there's shots I want to get right and I know I only have 1 chance during maybe a 5/10 second window I'll spray. Other times I'll only press the shutter when I know it's how I want it. So sometimes I'll end up coming home with 100s of shots, others I'll come home with about 5.

In regards to not shooting a lot of photographs, because you coming from a film background I'm less sure about this these days. When younger I used to take about 3 to 4 rolls of film for my P&S which equates to 96 - 128 shots. I'd often come back with my last roll in the camera almost spent. Even Joe MacNally mentions ripping through film just to get 1 shot. Although in fairness, he does end up with a shot in a completely different league to anything I've produced yet :lol:. Anyway, My holidays are now with a digital camera and I'm taking less shots. I've often come back from holidays with about less than 20 photos. I've become more critical/observant with age/experience I suppose. Having a camera shy girlfriend doesn't help I suppose :D

And all that rambling just to say... I have to agree, Arkady has hit the nail on the head!

I think this sums it up.

I can easily take 150 plus a day and probably 2 or 3 this a week.

I have just lookd at the total shutter count for the D5000 and it is approaching 14000, which is quite scarily high and the camera is less than a year old :eek:

P.S. Most my photogrpahs are for my work and have very little consideration over composition etc.. as they are purely factual records of a scene. I do now try hard to make sure they are in focus (really helps) not blurred and the area of interest is exposed correctly.
 
I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't use my camera daily, up to 750 a day when trying for that perfect water droplet shot and 150'ish on a day out and maybe a lot more. Nothing is set in stone but I do love my sport :)
 
shot 648 in 6 passes from an aircraft....god knows how!
 
I don't know how many I take, but I usually want to take 1 more than the rolls of film I have with me will hold. :lol:
 
Ah well if we are talking volumes I probably shoot about 60k per year for commercial work but they are all keepers :)

It's when I shoot stuff for myself I am a little more conservative!
 
When I go out clubbing, I usually take around 130/140 photos, all of those are keepers :thumbs:
