How many people here post from their phones? What I really mean is about whether you type hastily using just your thumb, which is the textual equivalent of using a point-and-shoot ... think about it.

Ps, to all genuine dyslexics - dyslexia is not a defect & I embrace you warmly ...

I almost always post from my phone. This is one of my timewaster sites when I'm commuting, travelling or otherwise involved in some tedious activity away from the house or work.
I will occasionally post from a laptop, though...like now.

I mostly type using my thumb. On my laptop and on my phone.

Never. The last time I looked, my phone seemed to have three letters on each key, making it impossible to be coherent. I expect that there's some clever way round this, but I only use a telephone for making and receiving voice calls. Any functions beyond that are of no interest to me. Actually, I'll amend that. The alarm clock function has been useful on overnight stops while travelling.

Use my phone at lunchtime if I'm working, but the ipad the rest of the time.
Use my thumb to type on the phone, but my middle finger on the ipad

Mix of phone (thumb)
And pc (2 or 3 fingers) go me :D lol

Never post on my phone. Usually use the iPad (like now) or some other computer - laptop or desk top - depending on where I am. Having said that, the iPad is driving me nuts at the mo because I have "upgraded" (if you can call it that) the software and now it won't let me stay logged on, meaning I have to sign on every time I want to check in. Very frustrating......

Think it's called progress..... ... But on the other hand, I now have loads of fun smilie things to play with ... ▪️

I mix it up between a PC, my phone and my tablet. Depends where I am and what I'm doing.

Not sure how typing using your thumb is the textual equivalent of using point and shoot though, my words are all my own and not chosen for me by my device.

I never access the Internet from my mobile. Can't be bothered on such a small screen.

I'm the same as Darren. Phone when I'm commuting or at lunch. Ipad / laptop at home.

Why would you type using just your thumb?

Rarely. Generally just when I'm wasting time waiting in a caff or similar. Don't usually bother looking at pictures since IMO even a proper computer screen isn't ideal for viewing images. Particularly hate the way the phone tries to second guess what I'm trying to type and autocowrecks it. (Also hate when people can't be bothered to check back on their posts for autocorrections that sometimes make a huge difference to a post...)

I'm really confused about the point of this thread but will answer.

I use my phone all the time and as per @Yv use the browser rather than app.

However when I type I use both thumbs which is the equivalent of what @droj? Am I a dslr user now?

When I use a keyboard I don't use one finger press I touch type but that comes with practice.

I don't see the relevance to P&S at all.

Don't you know that in the hands of an advanced user, any old phone is capable of sending a wonderful message?
Why, even yon old Box Brownie equivalent, used by StephenM is capable of decent things when operated by an expert (this will usually be a teenager)

When on the phone I use the app. On the iPad I use the browser though.

Im guessing its a 'subtle' way of having a go at peoples spelling etc.

Apologies if ive read your intent incorrectly though Roger.

In which case my spelling on my phone can be as good or as bad as when using a craptop that work have given me. Being that the letters can be out of sync of my typing.

Its all a case of reading what you have put before posting.

Unlike some of the luddites in this thread, I post from my phone, tablet or PC. Yes, I use my phone to speak to people too...

You what, how does that work? :p Is this some crazy new invention I have been missing.

I wish it was with some of the muppets I have to have conversations with. It'a bit like being here. ;)

I use the phone a lot. More portable than the laptop and a ALOT more portable than the PC.
Just as easy to check spelling etc. as anywhere else.

I don't have a smart phone. iPad sometimes... but not a phone.

The clue in the original post was the word 'hastily'. And indeed I am working in plainclothes for the spelling and grammar police! Not meant to be a wind-up, though - I was genuinely curious about whether the use of phones was contributory to the often sloppy standards of spelling & grammar in posts ... from the replies above it seems maybe not ....

No, it's just some people don't particularly care about how they write on the internet, some people don't speak English as a first language, and some people just aren't good with spelling and grammar.

PC.....it's easier on my eyes.
When they release a 15" smart fone that's not related to a common fruit things may just change......

Phone for me, always on the app. The spell checking is pretty good on the latest iOS software, as is the way it corrects words (most of the time). I always try and read back over the post before posting though to avoid mistakes!

It's just an internet forum. Most people just can't be arsed correcting typos or auto correct mistakes. So long as your message is clear, stop worrying about it.

I think that's it. I post from my phone as much as from my PC, but I know how to spell and to construct sentences, and I always run my eye over what I've written before posting. The odd typo gets through, but that's my fault, not the machine's.

In a similar vein, how many people edit a post if they spot a typo after posting? I do.

That's just your opinion, and there is room in the marketplace for different opinions. For example, making the effort to write correctly might imply that the author has also made the effort to read the previous post(s) and made the effort to think about what he wants to write.

That haz nothin to do wid spellin and grammer though. You can be the worlds wurst at spellin and be hopeles wid grammer, but still make it aparent dat you fully understand, and hav red the previous post, and tht u have thought about wat you are writin.

There is room for different opinions, yes. As you describe it above, you would not be criticising a poster's ability to read, understand and respond thoughtfully though... you'd just be picking them up on spelling and grammar.

Sorry?

Seriously though, you're right of course. But then you're asking the reader to try to work out whether your sloppy spelling and grammar are indicative of equally sloppy thinking, or whether you're just writing hastily. Why not make it easier for them?
