How many of you togs also have a compact camera in your bag?

I keep my old Canon Powershot A610 in my camera bag not in case I feel like using it, but just in case for whatever reason my main camera doesn't work or runs out of battery or something.

Would you say that any of you have created that WOW photo with your compact?

Well, I've got a Canon g10 for using when I don't have my SLR with me; it stays in the glove compartment of the van.

I was in a remote part of Pembrokeshire about 6 weeks ago - the forecast was not promising , so I left the SLR at home. Boy was I glad I had the g10 with me! Cloud had cleared, the sky was blue and a low sea fog came in. Quite surreal! And definitely WOW....

Anyway the g10 did a pretty good job. It takes a bit of getting used to after 30 years of using SLR's, but I got some good results - noisier than my 5D but you'd expect that.

And it forced me to get to know how to use the noise removal tools in Lightroom!

I'm not sure yet whether the results wouldbe of publishable quality but I'm hoping so.

A compact can be good when you don't want to look too professional as well, eg the crowd outside the 6 nations game in Cardiff recently, when I got some good pics.

So there's definitely a place for one as well as a SLR, but I wouldn't keep it in my bag though.

Got a Canon A720 which is a great little camera,8mp,image stabiliser,full manual,6x zoom and runs for ages on 2 x AA'a

Use it for work a lot and just lives in my rucksack now

Think I paid about 120 quid, can't be bad and that's some compliment from a confrmed Pentaxian

I have an Olympus C5050Z which is getting on a bit now, but I try and take it with me to most places, and it takes some great photographs, as this set from Valencia will show.

Trusty old Canon Ixus 40 when I'm not with my SLR.

I've got one but looking to replace it with an LX-3.

I cart around a minolta G600 which at 6meg makes usable shots.

I often take it out of my bag first ... it gets rid of the Official jobs-worths ... when they get bored and move on, I take out my 40d.

Would not ever be without my Casio Exilim at 5mp it's an amazing camera. It's what swayed me from 35mm to digital. I used to cart a bag full of 35mm kit around, bought the Casio as a plaything and found just how useful it was. The rest is history.

Is that the Panasonic? Like the Leica D-Lux?

Yah, the Panasonic LX3.

Also thinking about the Sigma DP1. Both are quite understated but extremely capable. Although the fixed focal length on the DP1 might be restrictive.

I have a Canon Ixus 900TI which is always with me I also have a Canon SX10IS, which is handy for a better quality photo, and a
Canon 40D which is my main camera for photo shoots. All of these
take excellent photographs.

Canon G10, as long as you live within it's limitations, it's a cracking little camera, always have it in the car, and sometimes take it when I can't be a***d carrying a DSLR over my shoulders while out with the dogs.

I have a panasonic TZ6 which I take out and it takes excellent pictures.

Back in my working days with a full kit (2 bodies, 4 lenses, Metz flash kit etc.) My bag was big and heavy, so I took it with me whn I was wokring - But, I would not go anywhere without having a camera of some sort with me. I always had a smallish Olympus compact in my pocket...everywhere! I can't remember what my little grey one was called, but it was later replaced with the mju which was slightly smaller, but just as robust.

The lens has to be as good as possible, so i went for one that had just a fixed 35mm, rather than a zoom. The pictures were just as good in quality as those shot on a 35mm lans on an SLR, but you don't have the flexibility of changng lenses. Then you tend to look at things and work to the strengths of the focal length you have available.

If you can find a copy of the 'CAT TALK - Best Of Imperial Rockabilly" album on the CBS / Epic label (It's blue tinted with orange writing) - (I do't have a copy to scan at the moment.) - That was shot on the compact.

My opinion has not changed, a compact will always be part of my kit, and with me 24-7.

i have 2 Dslr's and there are times i can't take them with me so recentley i bought a nikon coolpix and carry it every where...mind you my brats said "ohhhh it so like you "need" another camera" but they keep knicking it now so christmas presants are now sorted they both get a compact. the only thing i find a problem is this one has no veiw finder and i keep putting it to my eye... making myself look even more of a total prat.

I'm having the exact same problem with the new TZ6 I bought. Seems there's a permanent Nose Smudge on the bottomleft corner of the LED atthe back because I bring it up to my eye:lol:
