Remember! Flickr Community Guidelines specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page. (So, use Option 1.)

Just spotted this on Flickr. Not sure how closely they monitor this, but there are a LOT of pics on here where people just grab the image url and don't link back to the Flickr page. In the fact the first thread I clicked on to check had flickr images that weren't linked back!

It means, if you post one of your images on here, the image must link back to the corresponding image page on flickr... eeek!

I suppose that's fair enough. They are hosting the image after all. And it makes good sense to link back to the Flickr page that image is from. Gives the photographer (i.e. you) more exposure.

Impossible to moderate though. Who's to say it was you who posted that Flickr image on another site? Could have been anyone.

I'd file this under 'ignore' in terms of possible concerns and 'noted' under things to remember.

It is part of the T&C's, I just haven't heard of them enforcing it.

The problem is, the quickcodes they give are HTML and most people, especially here, will require BBCode...which flickr have yet to implement, so its more of a pain in the jacksie creating the link code to go with the image URL etc, so nobody bothers.

Exactly, and it's the only reason I don't choose to do it.

Gary.

I just link to mine with the [ img] tag thingy - seems to work. Being doing that for a couple of years with no problems.

Sorry? I pay my membersip, but I am sure YAHOO appreciate your concern :)

Gary.

You pay for the pro features, not for the image hosting itself. Just because it's Yahoo it doesn't exempt you from common courtesy IMO.

I always do it and use the flirck "all sizes+" script for Greasemonkey (using firefox) to give me the full code for the forums :)

well i ahve no idea how to do it i use they code they give me to do so how can they then complain?

Why not link it? it means others can click straight into your flickr pics if they want. Converting the code takes a few seconds.

if I'm doing it right of course!

I pay for additional bandwidth and space for hosting my images, or Image Hosting if you like :). I also generate about £30K per month for Yahoo via my business (Much more so in the past), so I am more than comfortable with my stance on this issue.

Strange argument Gary.

You have signed up to a service with the forementioned agreement. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean to say you can ignore it.

A bit like speeding in a car really, no matter how much road fund licence you pay or petrol you buy.

No skin off my nose though.;)

Well I won't pretend to adhere to that law either :)

Gary.

JL, any more info on this method appreciated. I use IE, my only snag.

Gary.

Shame you use IE as Greasemonkey is firefox only :(

But for anyone else, you can instal Greasemonkey from here - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748 - and then once that is installed (just click add to firefox or whatever it says on that page) you can add scripts such as - http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6178 - that one, just click "Install this script" and then when you visit Flickr and click on the All Sizes button you will get a window pop up which you can configure via a link at the bottom.

There are lots of usefull scripts around for flickr on greasemonkey.

Gary are you sure you should be admitting to all this rule breaking??

I don't do it cos i don't know how and it sounds complex:thinking:

Well if I do start to feel guilty about the Yahoo Bandwidth, I know what to do. Not likely though :)

Well I am no white knight in shining armour :D, and would never pretend to be. I have sped on occassions (and been pulled and warned for it), I have also used the mobile whilst driving but now choose not to (multitasking sucks), and I started drinking when I was, oooh, 11, but I now don't touch the stuff :)

I don't know ANYONE personally who hasn't broken a law or two in their time.

Gary.

ok i have instaleld all that on firefox and i get the box when i go to all sizes now how do i get the pic on here?

no i don't but im not sure i want to confess onlien either;)

I've asked Flickr about this in the past and if you are using your own images they don't seem to bother

What about Picasa?

FWIW, I always obey and link back to Flickr, but not because I was aware of this rule. I only spotted it today. I do it, as already mentioned, to increase exposure (of me, not the pics  )

If you copy and paste the 1st link from, in this case a medium size pic, you get this:

a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tontoshorse/2646961671/" title="twin track south by nameoftontoshorse, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3110/2646961671_c8befb0815.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="twin track south" /></a

I've removed the < and > from the start and the end respectively.

edit your link to:

{url="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tontoshorse/2646961671/]{img{http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3110/2646961671_c8befb0815.jpg{/img][/url]

where the curly bracket is actually [ (otherwise you wouldn't see the example.)

and you should get....

Compooter jargon confuses me, i will always follow the path of least resistance. To save the morals police kicking my arse -

ANY IMAGES I POST IN FUTURE MAY OR MAY NOT BE HOSTED IN FLICKR AND I THINK THEY'RE GREAT
