Funny how many women seem to not like being photographed  .... somehow I always thought otherwise?

I think it was meant with a touch of humor! Given that he addressed that to me, and where I come from

:D

Some people...

Actually it's OK to drive it Very Fast here in Germany - the autobahns are still partially de-restricted and there are very few 'speed-cameras' on the remaining road network...plus some of the most beautiful driving-roads in Europe... especially here in the Sauerland...

Aha, but it's not just fast-driving that you may be able to get away with in Saudi. Sadly, road traffic is appalling :'( ... I can't begin to tell you how bad the driving is over there. BUT, and that's a huge but, the roads are huge, wide, spacious, and span all across the country. Beautiful for long cruising, or just pushing yourself to your limits.

Amazing, if you point your camera at your favorite subject in my country .. you'd find yourself at the receiving end of endless live ammunition. being thrown back at you :p

The law on photography is Saudi is becoming very relaxed; but not so much with your style :p. Hence, that's why I just prefer landscape :D .. sand dunes, mountains, camels, , , , they just don't shoot back.

Oi! :bat: I saw that even if no one else did :D

I missed the Canon bit ... but fits well, me thinks :p

i often look a tw@ in photos.(refer to my myspace)
but i can live with that.
ive shot enough people in the past. sure they didnt all like it.

Oh, how many unhappy people in London got their picture taken by me ... countless of individuals. I just love shooting those who are unwilling to smile in my direction. What a contradiction, I know.

bring it on where are the camera's ?

Wow, this is a new one .. someone taking-on cameras! It didn't cross my mind to put this as an option when I did the poll.

Nice to see a different perspective.

Keeping the link here of cameras and guns, they're much the same for me. Feel comfy enough when they're in my hands but really not comfy when someone points a loaded one in my direction.

Apart from in Afghanistan, I'm not really allowed to shoot you if you point a camera at me...
Over there I can claim I thought it was an RPG...or a canon...

That made me chuckle.

I don't really mind having my photo taken. I used to have having my photo on the internet but it doesn't bother me too much anymore.

I've never seen a picture of me I like, so just avoid the camera's now so not to look stupid ... Much rather stick to the safety of the other side

I hate it with a passion... but what I hate more is when you see a horrific picture of yourself and then someone (usually my mum) says "Oooh don't you look lovely in that one!".

No mother, I look like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Are you saying that that is me when I'm looking good? I'd hate to see a shot of me on a bad day if that's me looking good...

Hate it, really really hate it and always try to avoid it at all costs. Unfortunately most of the family are like 'Japanese tourists' and seem to have their fingers glued to shutter buttons on ruddy mobile phones.

I am not keen, although that has more to do with me being an ugly fat bloke than anything else.

I have more recently posed for pictures and tried to be more at ease when having my photo taken and this was after someone criticised me for shying away from being in a picture at a family gathering, Basically they said something like, why are you so selfish as to not allow your loved ones to have something to remember you during good times, if something unfortunate should happen to you, it made me stop and think!

It depends on what i'm doing ...

Good one!

So, what the things that you'd be doing when you hate your picture being taken?

I picked the second option.

It's about much more than feeling uncomfortable for me though. I have serious 'issues' with self image. It is part of the reason I go weeks ... even months sometimes without even stepping foot outside the house. I am so petrified of the reactions of others when they see me. If someone took a picture of me and I saw it, I would probably never leave the house again.

If you were ever to meet me, you probably wouldn't get that impression though. The fear doesn't make me timid, rather the opposite (so this is also an apology to those I have met for being a bit loud :D). This is to try and help people see through my image and into my heart, which by all accounts I hope makes up for the probable first reaction to me of shock and maybe even disgust.

The only photographs taken of me in the last few years (since this problem has hit its peak) have been those taken by myself. This way I can control how much you see, like the picture in my avatar. Darkness is my best friend. It also reflects where I am behind the closed doors of my mind I guess to.

There used to be a time I didn't care one jot though.

Jo,

Thank you for sharing as this is a very touching and personal subject. In a way, I can relate to what you feel and go through. It's a very long and boring story, but I know where you're coming from.

Going by your avatar, I'd say you ought to let us see more of you. That, or you're a fantastic photographer yet to be discovered. Of course, it could be both :p ... but I'm betting on the first.
