Might have to invest in the new online renew version of lightroom in the next couple of months. I have a copy of the previous bought outright version on my computer, but for a job I have coming up I need a version on my wives lenovo yoga too. My bought outright is one hit only, so I can't put it on the yoga.

My question is if I buy the rented version can I put it on more than one machine, namely my desk top and my wife's yoga too? Don't want to subscribe and find I can't do what I want with it.

You can install on as many machines as you like. Of all the installations you might have, only two of them can be in an activate state (signed in). Of those two active machines you can only use the subscription software on one at a time.

If you already have a full paid version you can also upgrade to Lightroom 6 via a download on the Adobe website. It was around £60 when I did it last year. The subscription is a very good price if you are going to use all of the programmes, if like me you only use Lightroom is does make sense cost wise.

You should be ok installing your current version on both as long as you only use one at a time, unless they changed their licensing conditions recently?

Are you sure about only 1 running at a time, mine has never complained when it is actively being used on 2 machines at the same time. 1 on a desktop upstairs and the other on my laptop downstairs - my step son on his Windows desktop and me on my Macbook.

It won't complain. They software is installed on your hard drive and doesn't know if the other is being used or not.
i found that on an adobe forum, some say you can, some say you can't.

The post (posted by a member of staff) and is marked as the correct answer says

"You can install on as many machines as you like. Of all the installations you might have, only two of them can be in an activate state (signed in). Of those two active machines you can only use the subscription software on one at a time."

You could read the EULA to find out which is true though.

My pre-CC install of Lightroom was on two PCs with no problem at all. The easiest way to install it is via your Adobe account - even outright purchase versions come with an Adobe account - where you can download, install and activate the second copy.

Adobe have always taken the stance that you can install their apps on 2 machines in a desktop and laptop situation (i.e. 1 fixed and 1 mobile machine). However they were not to be used concurrently and were for the same person to use (so you could not have you and a mate using it).
