Tamron 24-135mm is my walkabout.

Just got the two lenses; a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 and a Nikon 18-70mm.

Both get used at all focal lengths ALL of the time for the magazine work I do. I do have a preferece for shooing on the 70-200mm though. However, with the imminent arrival of a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 I think that may get used a lot.

Most important bit of kit though is my SB-800 - couldn't live without it.

In the shoulder bag:
Canon 17-40L
Canon nifty mk1
Canon 70-200L f/4 IS
Sigma 105 macro

In its own bag:
Canon 100-400 L

All of which are used every week, some daily, some once a week.

In the cupboard:
Canon 28-70 1:3.5-4.5 II "The Hidden Gem"
Canon 35-135 1:4-5.6 "The Travel Lens"
Canon 70-210 1:4

These get taken out now and again to remind me how things used to be before Image Stabilisation. I could manage without all of them, clearly the last one was replaced by the 70-200L..

It's a good bit of kit, bought mine recently when jessops were knocking them out for £234 in their sale:D

Me too.

Carry what is listed below and use it as I deem necessary. When out for a whole day it's likely to all get a go at some point.

Out of the bag though the 17-55 is on the S5 and the 70-200 on the D300

I have three at the moment, waiting to find a good price on a fourth.

17-55 F/2.8 - This gets used a lot, its my walkabout lens for when I think they're might be some landscape stuff involved.

50 F/1.8 - Gets used fairly often, not for low light but mainly for arty stuff

70-200 F/2.8 - Used about as much as the 50, useful for street stuff

300 F/4 - Not got this yet but it will be used for my aviation stuff

I own 6 lenses. 4 I use regularly, the other 2 I do use just not that often.

KM 17-35 - regularly
Sony 24-70/2.8- regularly
KM 70-210/4 - my long (or not so) zoom, not used very often.
Sig 50/1.4 - regularly
Sony 85/1.4 - regularly
Sig 105/2.8 macro - just for macro, but not used very often.

Im surprised so many folk use 70-200 for street stuff, I like my 35 because i can vaguely point towards someone get them in frame and they dont really notice but with a long lens I think id be aiming right at them. hmmm maybe ill go use my longer lens today and see how i go.

8mm fisheye - occasionally
12-24 - a lot
24-70 - a lot
50mm - occasionally
70-300 - a lot
90mm Macro - occasionally
180mm - rarely
150-500 - occasionally (it's too heavy to carry around all the time!)

I've also got a 19-35 but that hasn't been used for ages since I have other lenses that outperform it in every way. If it was worth selling, I would get shot of it but I reckon it's only worth a tenner or so so not really worth the effort of advertising, packing etc.

When I went full frame digital just before Christmas (I had kept using 35mm film until then), the only lens I had to replace was the 18-70 kit lens so I got the kit (D700 & 24-120 VR). Shortly after that, the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 was in Jessops sale and was an obvious upgrade to make and since the 24-120 VR cost only £170 over the body only price for the D700, I made a small profit when I traded it in.

How do you manage with so few lenses?............;)

Nikkor 14-24/2.8 AF-S - amazing but very specialist for what I shoot
Nikkor 24-70/2.8 AF-S - my workshorse. A stunning lens.
Nikkor 70-200/2.8 VR AF-S - superb for portraits

Nikkor 35/2 AF-D - small, light, cheap. Decent performance.
Nikkor 50/1.4 AF-S - fantastic - easily my most used prime
Nikkor 85/1.4 AF-D - superlative, but very specialist
Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 VR AF-S - as above

I shoot most of my work with a 24-70 or 50/1.4.

I have 4 lenses: 17-40, 50, 180 macro and 400.

I tend to use them as two seperate kits, taking the 180 and 400 and two bodies out for wildlife shooting and the 17-40 and 50 with one body for general, street and landscapes. I don't think I've ever been out with all at the same time.

My lenses...

Sigma 17-35 f/2.8-4
Sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 DG OS HSM
Tamron 28-300 f/3.5-6.3 (has damage to focus ring, but still works)
Sigma 28-70 f/2.8-4 (needs repairing, as won't focus)
Nikon 50 f/1.8
Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 DG
Sigma 135-400 f/4.5-5.6
Sigma 400 f/5.6 (Manual Focus)

wish i could afford the nikkor 70-200, the decent performance 35 f2 is the best i have

so far

That came across and really dismissive of the 35/2 didn't it - it's not that so much as it's a focal length I love and I wish we had something like the EF 35/1.4L. I'd pay good money for a 35mm f1.4 Nikkor with AF-S.

The 35/2 itself is a lens I'd recommend to anyone though - small, quick enough, light and very affordable.

Got three lenses, only really use the 17-40 and the 70-200. Hardly use the 50mm. I was thinking about selling it, but if I did I know I would suddenly need it!

lol i didnt mean it like that, i just meant folk i know with the 70-200 absolutely adore it and while i love my 35 i know id much rather a 50 f1.4 (but not on a crop sensor)

btw theres a lot of love in this room, i had been worried it would turn into a slagging match/****ing contest

I,m glad that you are happy with it.

In answer to the post, all Nikkor

12-24mm f4
35mm f2
17-55 f2.8
50mm f1.8
35-70mm f2.8
85mm f1.8
85mm f1.4
105mm f2.8 VR
180mm f2.8
300mm f4
200-400mm f4

They all get used, and all have their specific uses, however at the most I would only take 3 or 4 out with me, sometimes only the one.

A couple are eagerly awaiting a full frame body, and a couple get more use than the others.

The good thing is that I do not need anymore ;)

i got 4 lenses.

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8
Sigma 18-200mm
Canon 50mm f1.8
Canon 85mm f1.8

Both the sigmas are on the camera most of the time

3 lenses for me.

Canon 50mm f/1.4
Canon 70-200mm f/4 L
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

As the Tokina is the newest lens it's on the camera most of the time lately.
The 70-200 would be next and the 50mm last. It just depends what I'm shooting as to what lens goes on to be honest.

I'm saving for the Tokina 16-50 and will hopefully have it in the next couple of months.

24mm f2.8
50mm f1.8
60mm f2.8 micro
85mm f1.8
35-70mm f2.8
80-200mm f2.8

The 35-70 isn't getting as much love as it was prior to picking up my primes but it's a great, sharp lens. I like it a lot and if I was only allowed to take one lens with me, I'd take that. I do absolutely love my 60mm micro though. It's brilliant. Ah they're all good and I use them all equally! Except the 85 and 50 which are new as of two days ago.

Ditto on the 35-70 best £150 I spent, just waiting for a D700 to put it on :D

12-24 used for special occasions Nik
24-70 used most of the time (my walkabout) Sig (want the Nik)
70-200 again special occasions Nik
105 micro for macro stuff Nik
50 for fun Nik

Not enough!

17-40L almost permanently on-camera
70-200L f4 used occasionally
50mm f2.8 propping the dining room door open and use the autofocus to scare the birds off the roof.

I need something like a 24-70L and something a bit longer but just ordered a 1d MkIII so lenses are on the back burner yet again!

Three lens here:

Sigma 70-300 macro - used the most (action and macro)
18-55 - 2nd for everything else
50 f/1.8 - used the least, just for portraits and shots of the cats

Would like to make it four though, with a proper macro, or maybe swap the sigma (but then i'd want a macro as well)

In focal length order:

  • 18-35mm Nikkor AF f/3.5-5.6 - My default landscape/architecture lens. Third most used, although I don't do as much of this type of stuff as I'd like to.
  • 28-75mm Tamron f/2.8 - The "walkabout" lens (on my budget ;)). Fast becoming my most used lens (although currently at number two :|), now that I've seen just how sharp and fast it is :).
  • 50mm Sigma EX DG f/1.4 - Optically, the best lens in my bag! Would make the perfect portrait/still life lens. Sadly, I hardly ever shoot portraits, so it sits, largely unused at position #4 (of 4 :().
  • 70-300mm Nikkor AF-S ED VR - My first lens purchase, my most used (as I've spent a lot of time in the forest, shooting wildlife). However, I'm really not happy with either the speed or the sharpness :( of this lens and it's crying out to be replaced (only, I just can't seem to find a couple of thousand pounds lying around ).

18 - 55 kit lens - occationaly
10-20 mm sigma - frequently (most outings)
28-105 canon - walk around lens, usually on camera
70-200 f4.0L - occational use
70-300 Tamron - occational
60mm Marco prime - least used

Bloody Hell, I feel inadequate

Nikkor 24-70 2.8 by far, before this purchase at xmas I used the Nikkor 18-70 which I was very fond of! Use the 50mm 1.8 a fair bit, nice focal length on FF, nice and light/discreet.

70-200vr and 300 f/4 af-s do not get used enough, usually for sports shots on the beach or the zoo.

Just 2 the 18-55is kit lens i got with my 1000d and a 50-250is, but i have only had the camera 3 months or so. Saving for a 400mm sigma.

Nikon:
14-24mm (hardly use.)
24-70mm (use a lot)
70-200mm (use lots)
300mm 2.8 (use even more.)
50mm 1.4g (hardly use)
A couple of converters. (1.7 used the most)
