Hi Folks,

How long have you been into photography?
And what was your first camera ?

I have been doing photography for over 15 years and my first camera was the Canon EOS 600.

Thanks,

Paul

i would guess at being 'into' photography since i got my first slr way back in about 1982, it was a zenith (russian iirc) very heavy but a great camera and learnt a lot from it, a few years later i swapped to a fuji stx-1n as my dad had the earlier version so we could share lenses - though as i remember he was never very keen on doing that :)

jump forward to 2000 and i bought my first digital compact from kodak at a whopping 1.3MP, i probably paid around 400 for it, i swapped for a newer kodak around 2004/5 at 3MP and much more compact shape, then upgraded to a 6MP kodak z650 in 2005/6.
finally getting my hands on a DSLR a few weeks ago the photography bug has certainly bitten again.
my 6 year old daughter has used the middle kodak and now has been upgraded to the z650 which she loves, and my wife wants to do a course to learn more and be able to use the nikon 'properly' - wouldnt mind a course myself either but not sure which.

so thats about 25 years - my silver jubilee :)

Only fairly recently, certainly within the last 18months. I love it, but wish I could spend more time on it TBH.

First proper camera was a 350D.

Got a Fuji fine pix about 3 years ago then in April last year.Got a sony cyber shot This year got canon eos 400D my very first DSLR Still learning basics but enjoy every minuet

I've enjoyed photography and taken pictures that I consider to be 'more than mere snaps' since buying my first digital compact in 2003. Have stepped up another level since getting my 350D in the late spring of this year. I now find myself 'seeing' compositions around me all the time, and I take my camera in the car most days in case of good shots presenting themselves during the working day.

I got a fuji A210 Point & Shoot as a present in 2005 and my Canon 30D in July 2006

Studied it whilst at London College of Printing circa '90, had a Canon AE1, shortly after finishing bought a Canon EOS 650, Then a EOS 5. Last camera bought was EOS 10D, around 3 years ago, so really got into it, now its what i live and breathe.
Dean:)

Started in 1983 with a second hand Fuji with the Pentax M42 mount - fully manual and a fine camera. 1992, I inherited by Dad's Olympus OM10 and then moved into the world of AF with an EOS500 in 1998. Went digital in 2004 and I'm now contemplating getting another film body to get back in touch with the photography I loved when I was growing up.

Scary!. Since 1958 ish.

28 years, phew id be out now if id committed murder!!!
first camera Kodax oval boxy thing, then a kodak slimline thin filmy thing, Canon AE-1, Canon T-90, Canon eos 5, canon eos 1, canon D60,(still own) canon eos 1Dmk2 (still own) and in between played around with an old twin lens reflex. and Mamiya RB 6x7 for Glamour work before the advent of digital.

I've been interested in photography since I was about 8 years old (1980ish), but only really started taking a serious interest in 2004 when I bought my Nikon D70. Prior to this I actually had a Canon (ok, so it was a Canon sureshot ) which I thought was pants, hence my decision to go with Nikon :)

1962 ....... Kodak Brownie 44A.

early 60s
hankered after a Halina 35X
actually got an Agifold - still in the loft somewhere
graduated through Zenith (1st SLR), Pentax, Canon Eos (film)
then Ixus last year and 400D this spring

I started with a 35mm Halina something or other and then graduated to a Zenit-E SLR in the early 70's. Upgraded to a Pentax K-1000 in the late 70's and that saw me through to a brief flirtation with Nikon in the digital age before settling on Canon.
That's 30+ years and I still haven't got the hang of it.

I guess since I was around 13ish (i'm 30 now), My Grandad got me into it. He gave me his old Miranda SLR when I was 13, really enjoyed it, howver after a few years, school, girls and beer kinda got in the way.

Got back into photography around 6 years ago, bought a oly 3mp compact, upgraded to a 4mp then got my E 500 in march of this year.

I get annoyed at not being out enough taking shots, it seems I very rarely get enough time to do anything other than work these days..

Hope to resolve that soon in America..

Cheers
Garrie

Scary!. Since 1958 ish.

I'm the same, even had similar cameras but mine was the 120 version, Kodak Coloursnap.

It's really interesting to read the posts :)

I've taken photos all my life - mostly on 'point and shoot' or 'throw away' cameras (Kodak Instamax !). But, I've ALWAYS had a camera with me.

Back in 1989 I was kindly given an Olympus OM10 and I've used that along with disposables and various digital cameras.

Finally, when I packed in my full time job, I purchased my Canon EOS 400D. I still have SO MUCH to learn ! ! !

No idea when I took my first photo, but my dad was a Pro when I was born, so have been brought up with cameras, first camera I used was probably my Dad's Pentax SLR, which he still has and still works a treat :)

About 38 years, the first camera I used was my dads' Voigtlander Perkeo II (120 roll film). The first camera I actually owned was a Zenith E, bought mail order from Jessops at the time of the Moscow olympics.

Blimey this takes me back! Started 35 odd years ago with a Zenith SLR - had two of them in fact. Shutters sounded like two ash bin lids being banged together. Also has a Kiev (but that wasn't an SLR) and a Minolta something or other. Then I sold all the cameras and bought a Yashica FRI and FRII. I remember spending hours in our bathroom with the windows black processing film and printing my own b&w prints. I still have the Zenith enlarger somewhere and a 'Leningrad 4' light meter.

About 7 months, and what a great 7 months it has been. Ive said it before, and i'll keep saying it; Photography has changed my life for the better in so many ways. It has become far more then a hobby and I can't imagine life without it now. :)

please don't tell me that:'(
you can't go from zero to hero in 7 months
please tell me you've been taking pix for ever - or you are a re-incarnation
lie if necessary!

my first was a praktika from a cr boot sale for a fiver
then a few om10s then i had yashica 230af then a canon 600 film camera
then lost interest untill about a year ago now its mainly bird photography

I've always enjoyed snapping away with my point and shoot but got my DSLR in June this year and I'm totally hooked. Still got loads to learn but it's a hobby that's completely taken over much to the dismay of my family :lol:

I have always wanted to take good sharp pic's but never got past a point and shot camera, when I started work in the koi industry we need good pics of the koi to put on the website so there was my excuse to buy a good camera and lens, it was second hand off someone that used it for the same purpose but was upgrading. the more I used it the more i wanted to learn , then i found POTN and now this forum , it has certainly been an eye opener and a quick way to learn

About six years, first camera was a Canon 500N

I've had an interest in for about 6 years however I've only really invested time and money in it properly for about 18 months.

I don't spend nearly enough time using the camera though, and often go through periods of a couple of months where I don't even pick it up :(

I would say since childhood - I can remember getting a camera for Christmas when I was about 10 - nothing fancy! Then my older cousin gave me an old SLR when I was about 18 which I never really used seriously. I bought myself a film SLR when I was in my 20s, then changed to digital compacts, and now just recently have bought my first DSLR - a Nikon D40x, which I am slowly getting the hang of, but don't use it anywhere near enough! Must make more of an effort!

Been into photography seriously for about 2 years now. Cant remember exactly when i took my first picture but i would say early to mid teens. My first camera was a fuji s602z bridge camera which server me very well and got me hooked on photography.

Early 80's I had an Olympus OM30 (still got it somewhere:thinking:) and a couple of lenses. Then Fuji FinePix S5000 about 3-4 years ago and currently 350D a bought a couple of years ago.

Bought my first SLR, a Praktica LTL 3, in 77. So what's that? 30 years I guess...

God I'm old...

got to be early teens, first camera was a praktica super TL2, it was awesome at creating grainy looking pictures especially in B&W. It was my pride and joy until i bought my cannon 350D a mere 3 months ago.

Now i can't put it down.

30-ish years - first up was a Pentax Spotmatic gifted me by my Grandfather...then an Olympus OM10, then an OM-1n then Canon A1 (second-hand), then Nikon F2AS, F3, F5 (with FM-2n as backup), D1x, D2x.
Also in the cupboard is a Leica M6, Pentax 6x7, Hasselblad 500c and a Mamiya RB-67.

My god I am new person only just started have alwasy wanted to get into it though. At 25 I have just bought my first camera a Canon EOS 400D and it seems really good. Just enjoying learning right now :-)
