I was just looking for a cable release for my 450d on camerapricebuster, when I nearly fell off my chair.:eek::eek:

The price of the 7D has been slashed to £1299 :eek:or cheaper. Whats going on. How long as this new price been the case?. I was thinking of getting one at £1699 a few weeks back. Glad that I didnt now. Is it likely to fall any more. Will Kerso be selling for sub £1000?

What are your thoughts guys.

But its only been out a month and £400 is a lot, half way to some new L glass.
 
Jessops are doing for £1299 as well linky , no mention of it being a special offer :)
 
RGB have had it at £ 1299 for ages, but their website has shown out of stock a lot.

Maybe Canon have decided the rich early adopters have got theirs and have released more onto the market.
 
It's been offered at £1299.99 since 29/10 if not earlier, although I don't think stock was available until a few day later....

Until a couple of days ago Warehouse Express had the camera for £1299 including spare battery. Bargain! They seem to have withdrawn the free battery offer.

I placed my order with Jessops on 2/11 at £1499 but they also dropped to £1299 within a week. I phoned up their mail order hotline and asked for £200 back and they agreed with no argument. The money has already hit my account. I also got cash back on my purchase through Quidco, making my net outlay under £1200 for UK stock with UK warranty :)

I'm not sure why anyone would have paid that lunatic launch price rather than wait a few weeks to save £hundreds. It's the same with every camera launch. A year ago I bought the 50D for £800 when most UK prices were in the high £900s and many were still asking the full RRP of £1199.

I purchased my 7D in the USA for about £1060 3 weeks ago. If I had know the UK price would drop to £1300 I may have waited and got one here. Saying that, I still saved >£200 and the only difference is my charger requires a £3 travel adapter to plus into the UK mains.

Canon ripped it's UK customers off by releasing it at £1699. £1299 is much more reasonable, but I feel sorry for the early adopters who have seen resale values slashed within 6 weeks. This is another good reason not to buy any new release.
 
Thanks for your thoughts all. I think I will wait and see how much further the price falls over xmas and in to the new year.

I think they might have realised that the previous price was too near the 5dII.

Or maybe they figured that demand was so high and stocks were so low, that they could ask what they liked. Now there are some stocks, people do not feel so pressured into rush purchasing.

Frankly i thinks it's a disgrace by retailers ,selling at such a high starting price ,then a month later they knock £400 off ,another perfect example of RIP OFF!!! Briton .Mind you, we!, as the buyer are probably mugs in the first place for being so eager to buy at the initial stages of a new product coming out .:)

But they realise that short supply equals high demand equals high price.

I know it's crazy but people who absolutely want the latest toy right at the very start WILL pay the RRP.

All it takes is for a competitor to lower their price on the target camera, and/or stock sufficient to satisfy demand and bravo :crowded:
 
I've been into my local Jessops several times since launch and I haven't seen one yet, so is it still in short supply or are Jessops badly organised in getting stock to their branches.
 
got mine for £1309 with a 16gb card, I wont mention the free lens(dont think i was supposed to get it)
I like it, am slowly getting to grips with the video feature, dunno what ill use it for though, the kids will no doubt play with it
 
I think you will be able to buy one of these for Just over £1000 by the end of Jan.:D
 
Sorry for the stupid question, but I thought Canon numbers went up with newer models, 350D 400D 450D, 30D 40D 50D etc, like 5D and now the 7D - I thought it was a replacement but at £500 cheaper than the 5D am I right in assuming it may be a newer model but certainly not a next gen up from the 5D???

Blimey! I hate it when companies break the nice organised chain to fit something else in! It means the 5D now cant be replaced with a 6D and above :lol:

The 5D and the 1Ds are full frame cameras, the 1DMkIV is a 1.3 crop camera with a really quick AF and FPS rate aimed squarely at the sports/action shooter.

The 7D sits nicely between the 50D and the 5DII because there was always the market for a camera of that resolution with the features it has. I would certainly consider it as a very good backup for the 1Ds and 5D and it might even add something to the stable having that bit of extra reach with the crop sensor.
 
Once it reaches £800 I'll get it unless I can afford 5D2 by then.

My point is D300s / D300 is still a better camera is some ways apart from MP, and cheaper. It was £800 a year ago, and if the £ stabilises it should get there again.
 
I'd be careful if i were you Drew, seen many reviews that prove the 50D, even the digital rebel are both a hell of alot sharper ... and i've played with the 7D, and i must say i'm not impressed one bit ... wouldnt pay more than 700 for it personally. I think i could go as far as to say my 300D which is getting onto 5 years old now, is just as sharp as it.

300D sharper than the 7D ??? Really??

The test shots Ive seen on here are amazing, and the high iso is a massive bonus for me. Cant really see how the 300 and 7 compare in my opinion. Technology has moved on too much IMO.

That's what i thought ... that's how poor the 7D is IMO ... i'll find the review i looked at now ... comparing the 50D, 7D and the digital rebel ... 7D was bottom of the pile :thumbsdown:

I would somewhat disagree with you. You have some great glass, so I *might* be down to settings and technique. 7D would be exceptionally demanding camera.
30D to 40D was an improvement in overall sharpness (ie. no change at pixel level sharpness).

I've downloaded 7D RAW files from DPR. Well the one with 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens @ 20mm was a real disappointment - full of CA and poor corners. I couldn't even correct it in LR2. 50mm samples were amazing though.
I think 7D and 50D are really best with good primes and fast telephotos. Midrange zooms seem to cause visible problems.

I really hope 18MP is the most APS-C cameras will see, they should concentrate on full colour sensor and better ISO performance instead.

That's strange. The 7D I own is clearly superior to my 40D in every area. ISO performance is around one stop better, AF is more accurate and resolution is much more detailed when using decent lenses. Anyone who believes otherwise has faulty hardware, or does not know their arss from their elbow.

There are reviews which contradict these results however, and "show" that the 7D is at least the equal of the "lesser" crop-sensor models.

High ISO, however, seems far less impressive. It seems that, with the new Digic processors and improved noise algorithms, all they've managed to do is keep ISO noise at the same level as previous models with lower pixel densities. From what I've seen, the higher ISO settings are no more usable than the same settings on the 40D/50D.

They used 35mm f//1.4 lens at f/5.6. It is one of the sharpest Canon lenses, it should be fine even on 24MP APS-C. If I had all L primes, I would go and get 7D now.

The point is other lenses are generally more popular / useful. 24-105mm f/4 had problems on 50D already (according to reviews), I really have some doubts whether 24-70mm f/2.8 or 17-55mm would cut it on 7D (70-200mm may be OK considering how sharp it is on 40D). What about the new canon 15-85mm lens, or the tamron, sigma alternatives as they are really popular?
 
It would be good to see some images as there has been a lot of talk about this camera but little to show in the way of images it seems.. was thinking of this when it went below £1200 but now maybe not...
 
Paid full whack for my 7D on day one. No regrets though!

I've taken 5k+ photos since then so worth every penny! Plus i've got to grips with it now. I can confidently say it's a stunning camera, teeny bit noisey but the AF and video totally make up for that.

Anyone considering a purchase, especially at £1000-1200 should go for it! xmas present to yourself hah.

This is just about tthe worst sort of uninformed comment and no help whatsoever to anyone considering buying the 7D. What does "Had a play with a 7D" mean? If it means you poked it through the door of Jessops and took a few shots then at least post the shots to support your conclusions, but it really means zippo without evidence to support your opinion. We can all say anything we like about a particular camera if we don't have to support that opinion with some evidence, and there's far too much of that going on.

There have been plenty of posts on this board from people actually using the 7D which clearly demonstate it's capabilities but here's a shot taken in dismal light at 1600 ISO.

No noise reduction has been run on any of these images.

The 7D has 3 times the pixel density of the 300D and comparisons with such a dated camera are ludicrous.
