Well I used to be into photography, still am I guess but after one person spoilt the forum for me I just lost interest, even now months later its a chore to even edit photos.

Sad really...
 
lol, no far from it :)

Although you did cost me a fortune once 5D3 envy kicked in!

Well I hope you get back into the forum and photography this last week has just proved to me why I love the forum so much :) a lot of great members here

Dont let one person spoil something that you enjoy. Unless you're a professional photography is a personal misssion to satisfy yourself. Ignore idiots.

Lots of people get pee`d off with all forums, they drift off, come back ,move elsewhere.Part and parcel of forums and how they work.
 
I think he's referring to me, so I'll set the record straight here.

He previously had the following reminders sent to him about the classifieds rules

1. "Reason: Classifieds : "Price pointing" without including a link and a firm offer"
2. "Reason: Classifieds : Not involved in sale"

So in May this year, we received an RTM from a member whom he sent a Private Message to. Included in the RTM was a verbatim copy of the Private Message, so I gave him the following 5 point infraction (which does not affect his ability to use the forums in any way)

3. Classifieds : Discussing trade via PM / email before deal concluded in thread
With the following message
This is your third warning for breaching the classifieds rules. (The other two are for other reasons and now expired).

Please have a re-read of the rules and adhere to them.

I then got a reply telling me he has no idea what it was, but he wants it removed. No please, nothing.

There followed a protracted discussion where I politely explained to him that a better wording in the reason should have been "Attempting to trade via PM", which he then denied.
So I copied the content of the PM that was sent to us (It comes with the RTM, we can't see them unless they're reported)
His reply was that it was merely a pre-enquiry to the member with a view to asking for a previous unsold FS thread to be reopened (which until now was never mentioned at all).
There as other discussions about his previous 'Reminders' too and how they affect a mods decision etc, so he wanted those looked at.

All in all, it was a judgement call. I acted on the information I had infront of me (as had another mod before me cleaned up some other of his posts that were also borderline too).
After an explanation, it *may* have been innocent (We still are unsure), but after a discussion with the other mods I decided to let the 5 points stand (Which have now expired anyway).

This was my final reply to him.

Unfortunately, I also have a full-time job and a family, so can't respond as quickly as I would like sometimes.

With regards to the infractions, yes, they still stand. That is all they are though, infractions. Well, one infraction and two old rule reminders. Your points about these have been noted, and I'd also like to add that previous infractions do not weigh any decision to issue any further specific infractions in future.

It might be pertinent that in future when wording a PM or a post, to be more specific. We as a moderation team aren't mind readers. We cannot second guess any intent and can only react to the facts and perceived intent we see infront of us.

John, I'm sorry you feel victimised by this, but if this tiny little incident has seriously taken away all enjoyment from your photography, and I've single-handedly ruined things for you then I think you may have bigger issues than this forum my friend :)

Seriously, don't sweat it, life's too short.

If you really want I'll remove the infraction and reminders from your account completely. Call it a peace offering :)

Yes, John, I agree with Yvonne. A little explanation is in order. With well over 2,000 posts you have obviously been around for a while so perhaps you would do all of us the service of saying exactly what the problem is. Without that your post is something of a mystery. :thinking:
 
John, I dont know who you are, but I got the same infraction many moons ago and believe me, there are worse things in the world to worry about. Being labelled "antagonistic" isn't one of them, but dont worry about what the mods/admin think - they're just like us afterall.
 
Even before reading Marcel's reply I thought to myself, if this chap truly enjoyed photography he would just be doing it. Saying that, or allowing something that, happens on a forum to affect your entire hobby just doesn't ring true.
 
Okay - Marcel is correct, it was him and I was never going to say it in thread - but what spoilt the whole thing for me was not the discussion and I concede that it did look bad, but that fact he decided to stop discussing and ignore any further PMs is what did it for me, I was devoted to these forums spending a lot of time here making friends and then someone in power chooses to threaten it all.

Yes I am being over dramatic and yes many others would not react I did or even care, but I did and still do.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for your support btw, well except the last thread, but hey someone will always think the worst.

Oh I will just add that I do understand that he was just doing his job, its just some people are daft (i.e. myself) and take things much harder than they should, and I didn't give up - I've taken many more snaps, just not full blown photography as I was, the fun is just gone.... well for mow anyway (I hope!)
 
John, seriously, a discussion over a classifieds issue seems a very unlikely way of causing you not to enjoy photography anymore, or even this forum and I still don't fully understand the reasons for starting this thread in the way you did.

I CAN understand if you have lost your mojo and are looking for some empathy and understanding, we have all been there and it stinks, but I cannot see how blaming Marcel, publicly or privately will help or is genuinely the reason, if you look a bit harder. :shrug:

Why don't you take advantage of Marcel's peace offering in his post above, shake on it, put it behind you and get stuck in again?

me too... After many years, I still cant send or receive PM's, use the classified or similar, and I didn't even break as many rules as you did

hasn't stopped me being a kick ass photographer though
