+1 for this. From what I've seen and also experienced, the 1-series holds up pretty well against water and even know a fellow tog that regularly 'washes down' his 1Ds under the tap! :shrug:

While I'm sure it's important to some like the guy with the tripod in the surf to most hobbiest shooters it really isn't that bigger deal. Most of us stay at home when the weather is awful and even entry level bodies with no sealing are capable of taking a beating.
It does of course though make an excellent point in the endless rounds of my camera is better than yours type internet forum debates.

Yet, if you send a 1Dx off to Canon with water damage then all they'll do is point to page 14 of the manual where it says -
and then explain how much it's going to cost you to get it fixed.

Whale watching in Canada, rough seas and rougher weather
Saw humpbacks and orcas...
Me with K20D plus 60-250
OH with 50D and 70-200
Few photos taken as one photographer doesn't cope with rough seas and the other's camera shutter went beserk. Guess which one was ok.
My K10D, K20D and K-5 have returned from trips to Africa and put in the shower to remove the dust. never a problem

I have no idea. I also have no idea as to why you think that question may be even slightly similar to something that bears a resemblance to anything that may be relevant.
You said the 1D series is waterproof. The manual says it's not. QEW.

I don't mind going out in bad weather, sometimes... I don't like going shopping in bad weather :thumbsdown: but going out with my camera is another matter
and it's nice to see the places I like in different conditions.My girlfriend actually prefers bad weather days to sunny days

I have a "weather sealed" camera body and lens but always use a cover if I'm shooting in the rain. Better safe than sorry. After a friend damaged a lens by getting sand in it during a shoot I only take minimal kit on holiday.
