How has this little scrote managed to rob one of my shots?

Yes
I have built myself a website in order to be able to sell my photos taken in nightclubs.

It's a very basic site, just gallery2 with a couple of checkout plugins.
I have all the images watermarked, but applied by the gallery software, not to the images themselves prior to uploading.

I have just found a guy on facebook using one of my photos, watermark free, however no sale has been made.

How has this guy got a photo from my site and stripped the watermark? And more importantly, how can i stop this happening again.

This is my website.

This is the link to the particular photo.

Help please!!!!! :help:

The page you requested cannot be displayed at the moment. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.

I can't see the facebook page (screengrab?), but cloning out the watermark is probably most likely unless he's snuck into your house and copied the original! With enough time and effort it's do-able, personally I'd prefer to just pay a few quid but that's just me!

not working for me either I get the same message as above

If you right click the image on facebook and get the URL for the jpeg instead of the actual facebook page then it should work.

his privacy options are ramped..

id go with cloning the watermark out. doing a save page on there saves all of the thumbnails unless he found a good way to enlarge without killing quality..

happens to me all the time. report it to FB and itll be gone in a few hours.

Right ok, must be his privacy settings. Yes he did have the cheek to add me first.

Here is a link to the screen grab.

Having downloaded the image from his page, the sizes seems to stack up with the image on my site, but with a litle cropped off the right. I can see an sign of photoshopping the watermark off, i imaging it would have been rather difficult to get it perfect.

Yep, the album covers are watermark free, and the photo he has is the album cover for that night, but it is considerably smaller than the version he has.

The file will be stored on your server somewhere, normally in the /g2data/data/albums folder, so I expect those who know could get the file before it gets the watermark added by the gallery system.

what size do you upload them at?

Sussed it - you run your slide show - you get large pics with no watermark - take a screen grab! Job done!

I notice with your website I can just click and drag your photos (though watermarked) to my desktop.

On my website (done using Photium) this cannot be done.

Once on my computer I could clone the watermark though this would take quite a lot of time.

Hope this helps

I think awp is right. No watermarks show when you run your images as a slideshow. Just hit Print Screen at the photo you want and paste into Paint

I didn't even realise i had a slide show. I'll need to look into disabling that.

Many thanks.

that's just what I was thinking :)

Report the image to facebook if you haven't done so already :D
That sucks that he's gotten that pic. good photography though :)

Definitely the slideshow - Andrew beat me to it. Took longer for the photo to load than it did to grab it.

You might want to watermark them manually rather than relying on the gallery to do it for you - either that or lose the slideshow

.... DOH - you lot type way too fast for me to keep up...

it's a piece of **** unfortunately... at first i wondered if he'd managed to find the original location of the images on the server. I couldn't anyway. But then I came across the little slideshow button in the top left, it loads the photos full screen (eventually) without the watermark.

Hope that helps :)

I use Gallery2 but watermark before upload and the slideshow is disabled.

Must admit you had me wondering there!

Same here, was trying to get to the original file location. Thankfully I checked back on here and it had been solved.

Great work AWP

Without any effort at all i can drag any image off your site straight to my desktop.

Firefox using source or just dragging it, IE the message works but can still use source to get it and in chrome i can just tick ignore this message and drag it off.

Obviously they are watermarked too, but thought i would mention it (:

I must admit Dave your photography is very good!

Thankyou guys for all your help.

I have deactivated the slideshow so hopefully that will be the end of it. I can't watermark the images before uploading as i sell downloads.

Just got to go have a word with matey boy now and explain how he can get a much better copy for peanuts. :)
