How good is the D90 Vs the D300?

reason i ask is beacuse i "may" downgrade slightly to this and sell the D300, dont have the lenses i had for it now and not using a camera as much to warrant the extra money in it, my mind may change when the motor season starts again

any plus for downgrading? apart from the obvious size/weight?
 
its reported to be marginally better at the high ISO.

The problem is its plastic vs mag alloy, and feels considerably cheaper - which is why it is lighter.

Im not dissing it, in image terms it will produce the same results, you just may miss the feel of the pro spec body
 
I used the two alongside each other a few weeks ago when i needed to use two bodies for something, I found the d300 was much much better. Under the same lighting I found the d300 was a bit better under high iso (I think i was around 1000). The biggest thing for me though was the layout of the d90, the buttons on the d300 seem like much better places and as Monkey has said, i missed the feel of the pro spec body the d300 has.
 
If i was exclusively shooting motorsport then i'd have got a D300. However a lot of my stuff is taken at home or traveling etc so the D300 just felt too big for me. The D90 gives you all the image quality of the D300 with only a few sacrifices which don't really bother me anyway.
 
thats the thing, i wont be at as many events this year i dont think, hadn't thought about the pro body feel of the 300 actually compared to 90

something else to consider would be back to the D200
 
I wouldn't consider the D200 myself, if anything it would be the D90. Its a slight compromise in functions and ergonomics but its not a bad camera at all.

I personally think you should stick with it (unless you really need the money now), when the weather picks up again you will be kicking yourself when you try to shoot motorsport without the added benefits of a D300 such as 51AF pts, 8fps, fast AF and 3D tracking etc...
 
I dunno, a D200 can be had for £400 or less and won't really lose any money, a new D90 is always going to shed a good chunk of it's value secondhand...
 
D200 for me!
 
The D90 doesn't have the killer 51 point lightning fast AF system...

With motorsport photography AF speed is king.

Nuff said.
 
i thought that to, think its better to stay with it, dont need the money i was just thinking about it and wondered what maybe best and the D300 will be i think

especially having 7 CF Cards (all sandisk) the grip, the batteris and all of that, its not worth it

and the camera only has 2.5k click so its practically new still
 
i left the office before to return to 4 PM's :lol:

it will stay on for now but i will see how it goes later this year and what use it gets
 
its not been to a BSB or BTCC meeting :lol: only a local two rallies

if only :lol:

i remember taking 1600 in a day at Knockhill at the GT's so all in good time :lol:
 
For me it's simple.

If you don't need the money then keep it. You'll gain nothing and regret it after a while.
