How does US D700 differ from UK one?

Hi,

I've an option on a little used D700 for £1350. So couple questions:

1. Good value?
2. How does spec of US model differ from UK model?

p.s. any one got a 24-70mm f2.8G ED AF-S for sale?

Regardless of where the camera was originally purchased the warranty isn't transferrable, however a US warranty would only be honourerd in the US, unless the owner had personally imported the camera themselves and had proof of purchase from a US Nikon dealer in their name.

If you want it all offical, you'll still have to pay import duty and tax on top of that price, as stated, any warranty will only be honored in the states, so you'll have to send it to the US to be fixed if problems arise, apart from that, just power adapter issues.

You shouldn't need anything else apart from a UK charger lead. In fact, you could cut the US plug off the lead abd replace it with a UK 3 pin one if you wanted to save a few pence. Doesn't even really matter which wire goes to live and which to neutral - the other end of the lead can go into the charger either way round. You may even have a lead lying around - many mini stereo systems share the same type of lead.

Unfortunately not the case, I think there is actually no Import duty on camera bodies, but lenses are hit with a duty of 6.5% of their value, but you'll still have to pay 15% Tax.
 
You don't have to pay tax and duty on anything that is "returned from warranty repair"....

Customs are well aware of that trick...

Its also illegal, and tbh I find a lot of folks importing and avoiding tax are some of the first people to moan about MP's playing the system.. potholes in the road.. and the poor state of the NHS :)

Tax helps to pay for these and as a UK citizen you should pay them :)
 
Fair enough - I pay all the taxes my accountant tells me to...


As for NHS/potholes/MP's expenses - thats politics and I try not to dabble with that...
 
Dodging taxes is a national pastime,I like to dodge the speed camera tax by staying below the limit.
