How does someone in Germany send me money in £££s

The only way I can think of is paypal into my Ebay account, and I assume the person sending the money will at least paypal's convertion from euros to £££s (at their conversion rate)...are there any other charges?
Also if the person in Germany has internet banking (or even visits his bank in person) would assume you can send money into my bank, but is it safe to send account number and sort code abroad? Also would bank charges be more then Paypal?

I think they use the IBAN number for international transfers. I did it once a while ago for booking a villa. I seem to remember there were bank charges at both ends.
 
What type of transaction is this? Do you need PayPal buyer/seller protection? If you use Paypal Gift, some, if not all, fees can be avoided, although you lose out on the standard PayPal buyer/seller protections. I've done this quite a few times with USD/GBP transactions and it's not normally a problem.

I find PayPal Gift works out cheaper and easier than sending the money through any bank (eBay itself shouldn't be involved in this, only PayPal).

H'mm thanks......it seems paypal\ebay is the simple way and they do gain by holding onto my money until I buy something so charges might not be too bad for sent money from abroad.

The guy in Germany wants to buy my camera (not on ebay) and what's worse he doesn't speak German and his English is just reasonable, well I know the camera works perfectly, so can the buyer just go onto ebay and send a paypal gift in £££s ?

The transaction would have nothing to do with eBay. The buyer would need to log into his PayPal account and send the money to your PayPal account. I think the sender has a choice of currencies.

Well I'm confused as I don't have a paypal account and in the past I have been sent money to my ebay account quoting my ebay email address i.e. ebay@****.com and they held the money. And how does the paypal work, does the money go straight into your personal bank i.e. Barclays, Nationwide etc or to a paypal bank?

How do you pay for or accept money for anything on eBay if you don't have PayPal?

eBay is a site for buying and selling goods/services, but it isn't for taking payment, that's what PayPal is for. As far as I'm aware, there are no payment facilities within eBay itself or at least I've never come across such. Perhaps you have a PayPal account and aren't aware?

Thanks I think I've sussed it as the confusion for me was using an ebay email address when joining.

It just sounds like your PayPal account uses an ebay email address as a login. My PayPal account uses my university email address or phone number as my login, but it's completely separate from my university account and mobile phone.

When you go to send money to someone, you'll need the email address or phone number that the recipient uses for PayPal.

eBay would not know your bank account details as it has nothing to do with payments. You can provide PayPal, however, your bank account details and/or credit card info for payments. Within PayPal you can link one or more of your bank accounts and cards to PayPal so that you can add funds to or withdraw from your PayPal account.
 
Well I got the money but they charged a fee so I got less :( well if they charged the sender a fee as well plus conversion from euros to ££s they are on a nice little earner.

I'm not sure but I think only a few bank accounts will let you receive foreign currency with our paying for it and they give a guff rate.

In PayPal the sender can opt to send gbp then they should take the hit on the XR but I expect there will always be a fee, even for a gift.

I've often seen people selling stuff and they say "buyer pays for postage and paypal fees" ......well I know now ;)
