I have been out and about today in the glorious weather and wondered how you get the fabulous photos of trees with the sun pouring through the branches? I tried with my Nikon D40 but I was useless they just looked very pale and I didn't capture it at all. I tried changing ISO etc - do you need a filter for this type of shot? If so what type? (As you can tell I am new at this and am learning very slowly!)
Any tips?

When I've tried this I have just made a standard HDR image from 3 images using the AEB built in the camera :)

I've had a few good photos turn out this way eg here. Also if you take the photos on a foggy day then you have more chance to get the rays visible in the photo.

He did what I said above, used Auto Exposure Bracketing (which I don't think the D40(x) has, but you can just change the shutter speed and you'll be a happy camper if you won't move the camera) and blended the exposures together in Photoshop, Photomatix or something else (I'd do it in the GIMP or Corel Photo-Paint ;) ).

Thanks everyone, will keep trying with your suggestions. Sue
