Hi Guys, came across the image below on Flickr....it looked great, I checked out the EXIF data to get some idea on how it was done, it does not make sense to me.
Shot with a Cannon 6D with EXIF indicating f2.2 on a 50mm lens which would surely not give you this depth of field. Also the star burst effect on the bike lights suggests a much smaller aperture was used. I can only guess some sort of photo combining process was done and hence misleading EXIF info.........I doubt HDR would work with the moving bikes and people in the background. Any idea how this would have been created?

You're right about the misleading Exif. Gary.

I would guess a single take right after sunset
@ ƒ22 and focus point on the right biker.!

I could be way off with my estimations but...
...Using this depth-of-field calculator, estimating that the crucifix is about 28m from the camera, then the near limit of focus would be about 11m - which by my estimation, would put the sign in focus.
 
I may be wrong Gary but should you really be taking images off someone else's Flickr account and posting them on this forum? :thinking: sorry if I am wrong.
 
He hasn't. He's linked to it; hence the Flickr tags.
 
Thanks guys.,..yes now I see that it would be very possible if the photograph was taken further away than the image suggests. Maybe it's been cropped a bit which would explain things........no great mystery. My hyperfocal app suggests that anything from around 17m to 80m would be in focus. It's a very nicely composed image

If I have broken any rule linking to someone else's Flickr image then I apologise but can't think that linking to an open photo site would be a problem
 
Need to get myself a nice 50mm equivalent lens!

It wouldn't be as small a f22 as that aperture would lead to an extremely slow shutter speed at that light level without ramping up the ISO to a crazy level. Closer to f16 with ISO around 1600 would be my guess.
 
Hello, It's my image! Thanks for looking at it. The exif is correct, not much editing in post, no adding starbursts ( I don't know how to do that!) Probably taken from about 20 feet away and cropped a bit. I kept it to a wide aperture because I didn't want any higher ISO. I was pretty pleased with the effect I got. It was handheld too. The 50mm 1.4 Canon is a lovely lens for low light. I use it a lot.

Thought you had entered the image in the IOP monthly competition That's how I originally found the image......,I think
 
Gary, you are quite correct. I did enter it but ages ago so had forgotten.
 
That is a lovely photo, must get myself a decent low light lens.
