No
when not in use?

I always just kept it in one of my camera bags, but recently invested in a hard case just for the storage purpose.

How do you store yours?

Peli case (with loads of silica-gel) for most stuff, or camera bag if it's in use fairly often.

Does it have pick-n-pluck foam? If so how do you take care so the foam doesn't disintegrate any further. I have picked all the foam I wanted to, but the rest seems a bit fragile. I've heard you can use plasti-dip spray to make the rest of the foam harder/stronger.

No, I have the `dividers`, which is a godsend for me as I suffer from GAS & frequently changing the configuration.

You will have to define "store" when not in use mine just sit on a bench in my workshop (spare room in the house not an outside shed) and only go into a bag when being moved, ie: when I'm off out somewhere.

Peli cases I looked at were more like £200+
In the end I bought a maplin one. £39.99

The quality seems good. I just want to make sure that the remaining foam is protected. I think I'll buy couple of cans of plasti-dip and spray all over it. I have a photo somewhere, I can post it if you want.

I bought one of the callumet roller bag inserts with a suitcase. Fantastic! I then put the whole thing under some shelving unit when not in use. Wet to buy another one the other day and found out they don't do them anymore. Gutted!

Please if possible, It certainly seems like a good value solution. Thank you

Sorry for poor quality. Taken with a mobile phone. Box of film for scale

I will probably be buying anbother one sooner or later, got some more gear I'd like to keep safe. Especially with a very energetic toddler around the house.

Seems perfect enough for me, as it won't leave the house so it doesn't need Pelicans weather sealing for me! These are from Maplins then? I'll have a look now :) Thank you for posting the two images, i really appreciate it!

Similar here. Stuff I don't use much lives in a cupboard, the other stuff sort of hangs around wherever I put it down.

It's this one.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/large-high-impact-case-with-pre-cut-foam-interior-n14gr

It does have a seal around and it says on the website it's water resistant, but same as you I don't really plan to take it outside often. It's just for home storage.

I have a Flipside backpack & a Crumpler shoulder bag so everything lives between the two depending on what I'm taking & where I'm going. My old manual glass though lives in a little cardboard box :)

That's what I was doing for years, just kept stuff in my most used camera bag of the time.

However my son is like a small tornado and it was only a question of when he will finally start playing with my bags/gear when I'm not around. Better safe than sorry :)

I picked up a manfrotto rucksack style camera bag in the jessops sale after Christmas- now holds all my lenses, camera and monopod and I take the whole thing whenever I go out to shoot. My old small camera bag is now my "flash" bag with all the lighting bits in it

2nd body and all lenses are just kept in a bag in my bedroom. Can't recall the model but it it's a very large Lowepro backpack.

1D4 with 100-400 is always just kept to hand on my desk in a long Tamrac Pro Digital Zoom.

I have a large-ish Lowepro shoulder bag that all my "go-to" stuff is kept, then a plastic box under the bed with some peripheral stuff that doesn't get used that often. Although saying that my Lowepro can't keep up with my GAS at the moment so may look into something different. Those Maplin cases look good but I would possibly need 2, which again may not be a massive problem as the one bag is starting to dig into my shoulder now

I don't suppose the case has anything to attach a strap to does it?

It does have two small holes on each end intended to be used with padlocks but you could attach a strap instead (you'd have to find one with VERY small clips though). The holes are visible in the second picture I posted.

Regarding controlling humidity, I'm thinking of buying silica gel cat litter and putting it in small bags with my camera gear.
It's way cheaper than buying those small silica gel packets.
Do you know if it has any disadvantage?
Can it have any chemicals (like perfume) that can damage lens over time, or something?

Thanks,
Luis

I have started using moist traps in room I stored the camera bags. They are bigger versions of silica gel packs and are in a box that stores the moist/water.

I have purchased a BRNO Dri cap for my 200-400 f4. It does the same thing as the silica gel packs but it's sealed so it only absorbs moisture from inside the lens. They are quite expensive but considering it's on £3.5k lens it's not that much in the great scheme of things. I also keep some standard silica gel packs in the cupboard where the lens and camera is kept to absorb moisture outside the lens. I've moved my lens and camera to a temporary cupboard in the lounge as it's warmer and drier than our spare bedroom.

I keep most of my kit in my largest bag (Flipside 500) I always leave a few silica pouches in there, really the small ones that come with the kit.
These don't last for long though, are they rechargeable in some way?
I keep my SLR kit in the bag but the bag is in a plastic tub with two rechargable dehumidifier packs
I have a (ex-weather station) sensor in there and keep an eye on the humidity.
The packs need recharging about once a month. This keeps the humidity in there about 30%.
Rooms in this house are often 50% or more and summer is worse than winter as no heating is on for weeks.

Humidity much above 40% is risky for cameras and lenses, especially if it's warm too.
I was a bit shocked to discover that a superceded Canon 300D "just put in a cupboard" had grown a small patch of fungus actually on the sensor when tried again after a couple of years.

Something else I noticed when using the sensor to monitor, is that putting the drying packs in a soft case with the camera is almost entirely ineffective - a soft case on its own is no barrier to water vapour.

These are what I use.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rechargeable-Mini-Dehumidifier-Pack-Set/dp/B001P478OG
The reviews seem mixed as people expect them to dry out rooms, caravans etc.
This is unrealistic as more moisture continually gets in, and they aren't going to do much in a large volume of air
But they work well in a small more or less sealed space.
Mine must have been charged at least a dozen times with no obvious change in performance.
You can probably get something with a similar principal but you recharge in the oven.

Thanks for the link, something I will look into.

I store most of my gear in my large trunk case along with a old Manfrotto bag if I don't take it with me, my most used gear is kept in my Kata HB-207 bag all time.
