How do you store your gear at home?

I was thinking of buying a camera bag to store all my gear in rather than on my wardrobe shelf.
I'm wanting it altogether and safe, but can't warrant spending £150+ for a bag just to stay at home.

I've got 2 bodies, 5 lenses, 3 speedlights

How do you store your gear at home?
 
In a safe, just remember when you buy that big bag for all the gear you make it extremely easy for the burglar to simply shoulder the bag and walk out with your entire collection of gear.
 
Just keep mine in camera bags the spare gear I'm not using I keep in old camera bags , I'm a collecter of camera bags !!
For keeping your gear in the wardrobe I would get one of those plastic storage boxes and put each lens etc in a plastic bag to keep dust out:)
 
This is what I bought from Homebase, though it was half the price when I got it.

It was simple to install in the corner of the room on top of a set of drawers. It holds 3 bodies, a macro lens, long zoom, kit lens, ultrawide as well as an m4/3rds body and 2 lenses and 2 compacts.

I even slide the iPad in when I'm leaving it at home.

Simple to leave unlocked and just use as a cupboard when at home and just lock and go when I go out.

I keep all my stuff apart from bags in a chest of drawers in my office/lounge room. Then I take just the stuff out of the drawers that I want to take with me that day.
 
Scattered around the house for me to find when I need it least.

I wouldn't recommend keeping gear in plastic bags - this is asking for any condensation to build up.

I store my gear in numerous bags and a Peli, and always have some silica gel packs in the case to stop moisture build up, especially in a hot, humid country like Dubai.
 
I'm terrible for storing gear, there's literally cameras in every room, lenses in draws, infact my desk has all sorts scattered across it as we speak! I call it organised Chaos though, I know where everything is when I need to grab it, I do store my 1D X with the bed linen though - it's the last place a burglar would think to look (So I keep telling myself)

I've got the house pretty secure though, triple locked door, vibration sensors on the windows, intrusion alarm and 5 CCTV cameras running to my NAS so there would be a good chance of catching any sod who attempts to break in!

The problem with storing equipment in the bag is that all the dust and fungal spores in your bag are sucked in out of your lenses and bodies as the atmospheric pressure changes.

I use the http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...&field-keywords=HPL884&rh=n:11052681,k:HPL884 they are completely air tight and easy to keep clean internally, they also stack. You can get a Nikon 70-200 in length ways and a couple of smaller lenses or 3 medium lenses like a 14-24, 24-70 and a 24mm PC-E.
 
I never thought of using lock & lock! Quite a good idea, I always wonder why the Mrs stores her embroidery bits and bobs in them :D
Hopefully she won't notice if I pinch them!

They've gone up a bit in price recently, no doubt due to the postage increases.
I can and have spent many a happy hour cutting various lens , camera and other shapes out of foam! :lol: my wife thinks i'm mad!:cuckoo:

Those alu cases are heavy! I stick with storing infrequently used stuff out of the way in storage boxes where as the commonly used stuff lives in the smallest bag I can get away with.

The large plastic storage boxes are from staples, one lives under my desk and holds the items that are out of my main rotation, ( film cameras, compacts, flash brackets, spare flash guns, odd ball lenses). They cost about 15 quid.

Then I have a small bag that usually holds my day to day kit, d7k, 35mm prime, short and long zooms & a flash. That's my usually grab bag and I try to keep it packed and ready to go.

On top of the plastic box thing lives another bag which contains flash triggers, gels, a few film cameras, lots of film, cleaning kit, light meter and so on. It has empty spaces for everything in the little grab bag. Which I can empty and repackage into the big bag in a few minutes if I want to go out "loaded for bear" as they say.

Some of my prettier film stuff lives on a shelf above my desk.

You could always buy packs of silica gel, it's fairly cheap to get, even on eBay.
 
Mine's all stored in a Tamrac Super Pro 14 and it holds all my gear in it, the wife has a smaller Canon bag for her stuff and it's usually kept within reach just incase any photo ops arise.
 
Most of my gear just sits on my PC desk, as im too lazy to keep putting it away.
I tend to keep my daily gear in my daily bag though.
I did buy a second hand Lowepro Flipside 400 to store it all in, but thats normally half empty most of the time.
My main issue is where to store all the bloody bags i have lol.

is there any point though? im a noob but I like to think there is no harm in storing gear "out in the open" in my bedroom, not in a special case or cabinet etc

please correct me if im wrong and point me in the right direction :D

I am using a lowepro stealth reporter that I also use to carry the camera (mine is 100w that might be too small for two cameras but there are bigger ones 200, 300)
 
Um in my desk drawer (they're huge). A safe sounds like a good idea but also a huge inconvenience if you just want to play with the camera.
 
Was looking at a filing cabinet in ikea, lockable and thought about padding it out. It's only got the 2 drawers. Could screw it to the inside of my wardrobe. It's just not great quality.
 
Currrently in the lowepro bag (400aw I think) with silica packs (from shoes) littered through out to try and counter moisture...

Hmmm now I am a little worried about the fungus lol... But the only things not in it are the tripod, monopod, backdrops.

True that it could be nicked easier, but if you have insurance, thats not a worry anyway.

The silica packs are a lil pointless mate unless you cook them and but them in the bag when you return from a shoot.

I agree the gear an be knicked easily in the bag but when am headin out at 3am I dont wana be searching for bits n bobs all over the shop
 
Mine and the wife's camera gear all live in our gun safe. Tonnes of spare room and the cabinets dead bolted to the walls on both sides in the corner of the room. Works a treat, and I get to play with my rifles and shotguns every time I get my camera out :-)
