Yes
I have stuff everywhere. I thought that if I got a big enough bag, it would all live in there - then you get reflectors and blowers and brushes and chargers and batteries and a light box and another body and some more lenses and some filters and manuals and cleaning cloths and it no longer fits into the bag that you got to fit it all in.

I need a solution - you all have it. Pictures would be nice.

Chris

I have two massive couches in my livingroom, one is now permanently covered in photography gear!!!

I keep thinking about a large holdall or box, which I can put other bags and boxes into.

Gary.

Amen to that! drives our lass insane

Also got all the studio kit on the spare bed. Sorry, thats no kinda storage solution at all really is it?:shake:

I have a few camera bags (too many!) and store all my gear in them.

All my Canon Digital gear in the largest backpack, other film cameras in other bags along with the lenses for that system if not EOS.

Show offs.

I don't have enough for this to be a problem. It would easily fit in a Tesco bag.:)

Lenses and body in a Fastpack 250, all flash stuff/triggers/chargers in a dakine photo bag, all brollies/lightstands/tripod in big drawstring plastic bag. And a cupboard to take all the boxes.

I have one bag that I take out with me and there is plenty of room in it if I just take what I need, the rest (not a huge amount!) just sits on the bed or sofa. The 70-200 and 100-400 have their own cases so they don't need to go in the bag anyway!

If you need a bigger bag I have a brand new one in the for sale forum thats huge!!

I've got several bags, but TBH there's photography kit all over the house. But I get away with it because it's better than the car parts the wife used to moan about being everywhere...

My lenses all live in my Mini Trekker.

Everything else (lighting/reflectors/tripod etc) is strewn around my little room, amongst props Ive acquired for pics that Ive yet to take!

The 5D lives where ever I set it down last!

i have everything within my camera bg, and then just have the charger plugged in. If i get more gear, i might buy a suitcase.

We're currently looking to move house, and hopefully when we do I'll have a bigger room to use as an office. I've promised myself a big glass cabinet to keep my kit in when we do.

Pete

All in the bag, well almost. The new flash received the other day will not fit in the bag and also some filters have had to be put to the side. Bigger bag needed me thinks.

...so, to recap. It is only me with a problem. You lot just live in chaos as well but don't worry about it!

The thing that triggered this was I 'lost' a battery yesterday night and spent hours looking for it. Realised that I had left it in 'the safe place' where I would be able to get it in a moments notice.

And if anyone does have a solution....

Chris

Now there could be a photo theme for you guys and girls how you store your gear .:)

Yeah that's about right :)

I intend to get something like this when we move

I sorted out the top shelf of my bookcase to be my photography shelf for kit etc but it was just a pain in the arse in the end and now everything just kicks around the room. To be honest I tend to loose less stuff when it is all shattered around. As soon as I tidy up I loose things :(

Oh I'm depressingly organised! Anally retentive is another way of putting it. :)

My studio gear is packed into two travel bags designed for them. The beauty dish and ringlight have their own box. A second box has all the studio props such as material and reflectors in it.

I have a set of three aluminium boxes. The largest has all my MF gear in it. The middle one has all my accessories such as triggers and grips, filters and sensor cleaning stuff. The third is my mobile flash gear. Two vivitars and brackets live in there.

All this stuff packs very neatly into one end of a walk in cupboard in the bedroom.

My camera gear is in two lowepro bags. 5D with 100mm macro, 50mm,24-70mm and 70-210mm and the other a 1Ds with 24-105mm a 580ex and ST-E2. They live beside my bed. :)

I've got one of those little table top studio things from Maplin and it lives under the bed. It's amazing where you can find to stash stuff!

My digital gear is kept in two camera bags, usually in the front room unless Jen gets sick of them and moves them to the back room.

All my film gear is currently stacked in plastic crates in the corner of the back room.

Odds and sods I tend to leave scattered around the house but at the moment they are taking up a few shelves in the wardrobe. One shelf is full of packaging from cameras, lenses etc.

I bought a big cupboard to store it all in. Then I bought another one. Then I bought another one. Then I cleared out one of the spare bedrooms. Now I'm thinking of converting the garage...

Okay, so apart from AliB, I'm normal. I think that he marked himself out as AR anyway!

I like the Ikea glass case idea, not keen on the idea of walking around Ikea. Especially on a Sunday.

Talking of being anal retentive, does everyone else keep all the little silica bags from shoes at al to keep their kit nice and dried out - or am I really special?

Chris

He's a she! :D

Perhaps that's why I'm tidy. I'm the housework fairy that has to clean round it all so it get's put away. Plus I know where to lay my hands on any bit of kit at a moment's notice. I'm not crashing round the place saying "Has anyone seen my cactus radio trigger?" when my family have no idea what the heck I'm talking about! :cuckoo:

My place is an absolutel tip, so I try to keep it organised or stuff just disappears!

Anything that is not used much is stored in a flight case:

Other stuff is kept on a shelf.

I also keep a camera handy hanging by its strap with a lens already attached, "grab n go" as it were. I don't tend to keep things in camera bags when not in use, I like to keep things "aired" or if not in use long term in the flight case with gels etc.

I keep my stuff in a slowly overfilling slingshot 100aw by lowepro

Fantastic - I think that I have found what I need. I need an AliB ;)

Most of it lives in the MiniTrekker, ready to be taken out at a moment's notice but the extras live in a cupboard so I can grab them or change the kit bag contents PDQ. 'Pods live in the cupboard under the stairs - again, ready for grabbing should I feel they'll be needed. Batteries and cards are kept charged (or wiped) in the bag with the rest of the kit and film is in a bag in the fridge. Spare batteries for the film bodies live in a bag tied to the appropriate camera strap. (Gods, I can be organised sometimes!!!)

Is that not what at least one settee is for........

X2.....:D

I saw a couple of people on here had these, thought great idea for the money and shot off to ikea to get one.

Its the best thing I have bought for my kit. Detolf Cabinet

Yeah, but I'd make you tidy everything else up too. I can be an absolute pest. I get stressed if the house gets too untidy and once than kicks in there is no stopping me. I get told I've got OCD! I hate clutter. :cuckoo:

After losing stuff and always struggling for a place to keep it all together I have just purchased a peli 1630 off StuvUK (Thanks Steve). The bloody thing is massive but has two layers of organisers in the bottom and another in the lid. If I ever fill it the thing will be very difficult to move (and I will end up a single man). Thank God for the three handles and wheels. It's that big I can get my tripod in the bottom as well.

Chris :)

I have camera bags laying all over my floor. my tripods make my room look like a city.

why would you want to organise it in one place? surely half the fun is trying to find stuff around the house because you've got no idea where you left it???? the good aspect to this form or dymnamic organisation helps to get my wife involved in my hobbies, ie helping to look for things!

Two bags, the tops of two computers, bits of the hall, one of three sofas :)

shoe box :)
