How do you get this look?

You can get fairly close by upping the saturation a bit and using unsharp mask with a low amount and a high radius to push up midtone contrast.

I reckon Tweaks in camera Raw, (recovering highlights etc) dodge and Burn an as wayne say maybe some HIRLOAM sharpening.

A large part of it will be the lighting he used to shoot the models with before compositing into the background.

Each to their own and fair enough if its look you want to achieve, I hope you succeed

Doesn't do much for me though

Very deffinatly HDR. Some were just tone mapped more then others. I fond it interesting there isnt much HDR on this site.

crank up the clarity in your raw editor as well as the fill light. This creates the dragonised look without shooting multiple exposures for HDR.

If you are keen on this style of photography check out photomatix as an application for creating HDR. I use it as part of my professional work flow and it's relatively cheap.

also check out Dave Hill. His stuff is pretty interesting...

You can get HDR like looks in LR4 using your highlight and shadow faders in LR4. Its more subtle and pleasing to the eye than full HDR.

From reading through his fb page it seems that quite a few of the images are composites where he's used different photos to make the foreground and background. Its heavy processing and there's a lot of skill there (whether you like the style or not). It won't be something you pick up in an evening using an action or preset.
