I would just practise but as it's in a club, it's kind of hard unless you go there knowing exactly what you're doing.

What would I need to get that effect? Would I need to use my flash gun or what? :shrug:
 
there's a shadow behind the girl on the lefts head so he's used a flash probably with a diffuser
 
Slow shutter speed... Go for F8, 1/15, and use off camera flash and play from there. Oh meant to say, you'll have to up your ISO a bit as well, but shouldn't need to be too high depending on the light levels in the club. I would imagine it was quite light for a club in that shot.

:agree: It's a technique called 'dragging the shutter', you switch your flash to second curtain sync or rear curtain sync (read how in your manual :naughty:) and then use a slow enough shutter speed to allow enough ambient light through for a good exposure.
I'm sure you would have seen the results of the opposite approach = bleached white/over exposed subject and a pitch black background.

Normally, this kind of shutter speed (1/15th ish) would be blurred as hell in unsteady hands but as the flash pops just before the shutter closes it freezes your subjects and gives you a sharp image. The slower the shutter speed the more 'trails' you'll get from moving objects.

When using zoom lenses you can also zoom in and out to create some interesting night life images, almost as seen through the eyes of folk who've had too many vodka red bulls :puke:

Yeah, cheers! So do I need to keep a very steady hand? And do I need to ask the people to stand perfectly still? I know these shots weren't used with an off-camera flash... So how do you suggest they were done? The same but with the flash on top?

If your referring to dragging the shutter I mentioned above, it's an on camera flash technique as well as off camera.

You don't need to ask folk to stand still and your hand should always be as steady as you can get it.

The point is that your balancing ambient light with flash.
Read the link I posted, it will answer many questions and also guide you to the correct practice clearly. :thumbs:

If I were going for that effect I'd maybe go for a DD or even an E-cup - A good plastic surgeon will point you in the right direction. Then you just need to wear something tight, slinky and maybe arch your back a bit so they appear bigger and the cleavage is more pronounced.

We're talking about the boobs right?... :)

This will be the only time I take this topic off course but Kryptyx, have a word with yourself - this is banter and good fun and I beleive you yourself posted a few 'light-hearted' remarks one Sunday morning! Why take things so bleedin' seriously? That's the problems with many forums these days, people believe their own hype. Chill out.

Use second curtain flash/slow-sync if you want to get that effect.

Silly Q but Ive heard of high speed sync and there is a button on the flashgun to achieve it but how do you achieve slow sync? or is it just another term for dragging the shutter?

Slow sync is any shutterspeed lower than the camera's sync speed. Old film cameras sync'ed at 1/60 which is fair enough for most indoor situations. Higher sync speeds give more options, including daylight fill, but the look of a deer frozen in the headlights when used indoors.

To get slow sync you can use the cam's Manual setting and choose any low shutterspeed you want e.g. so the background is 1 - 3 stops underexposed.

The Av mode may drop the shutterspeed when a flash is used, in accordance with the lens used e.g. 1/30 for a 28mm.

The Tv mode may allow setting both low and high speeds.

There may be a "night portrait" program mode which should also balance the exposure, though with less control than the manual setup.

Cameras vary with what they're designed to do, so the above won't apply in all cases.
 
Oh OK I knew this already just didn't call it slow sync is all.. maybe if I ever read the manual I might learn what all the lingo means...lol all I know is if i do this it does this...lol:coat:

I think you need to chill out mate, this is a forum and last time I looked anyone can post anywhere they like. Your question had been more than answered so what's the problem? Actually, having had a look through some of your previous threads where you appear to spit the dummy out and sling the toys out of the pram on a regular basis, I would hazard a guess that it's your general attitude that's the problem.... :baby:
 
Have to agree, lets keep things in proportion here. After all, what real harm has occurred? Had you not found out what you wanted to know, it might be different. But here, everyone wins.
Also bear in mind, that provocative images nearly always elicit comment, especially on such a male dominated forum. But it sounds like you know that first hand.

Nothing about cables though.....Kryptic, if you want to know how a shot was done you can actually learn to disect an image and then work some of it out yourself, or at least think of a way to do it with your kit.

Look at that shot again - keep your eyes up! There is indeed a shadow behind girl left, but there is also a shadow from the girlon the right - with light right down the middle between them. That, to me says the flash was high above them...camera is in vertical plane, so flash had to be on a long bracket, OR on a cable and held loose in one hand, camera used one handed in the other.

The shadows and lighting will always give you BIG clues (yes, done on purpose for the benefit of the humourous ones!) as to how a shot was done, or at least what lighting was used..the strength of the shadows and highlights will give you clues as to where the modelling came from.

I have found that if you go along wiht folks on here they are generally very helpful. A few jokes don't hurt, certainly not worth getting upset over. Don't RISE to their bait, just post with something that will bring it back on track. Tummy in the black dress looks a bit podgy to me.
