Yes
ONe of two ways you could do it in Photoshop or you could use something like an 85mm f1.4 with the aperature set at f1.8 or even f1.4.

Bit like using your 50mm set at f1.8 limited DOF so people in focus background out of focus.

Thank you Nick, will try giving it a go with my 50mm f1.8.

Just take a little care on where you set your focus points if it is not quite right then stop the lens down to f2.0 and have another go :D

Looking at the EXIF data: an 85mm lens at f/1.6 on full frame (a D700) in all of those linked to in the OP

The first few `outside ` shots look like composites, with the people being shot in the studio then added to the outdoor background.

Those eyes need "popping" a bit more...........:suspect:

Heads certainly don't though, look like cardboard cutouts! Perhaps a tad too much sharpneing on the low res images there!

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I thought that as well. I think the bokeh looks photoshopped too, at least it's very similar to the effects you get with the alien skin pluggin.

The data is all there, as already stated. They're at f/1.6 on a 'full frame' camera. A little bit over-sharpened/poor compression in some cases though.

'Critiquing' / bashing photos from people not on the forum is generally frowned upon as well. :)

I don't see how that can be construed as critiquing or bashing. The OP asked how the effect had been achieved and djinn was simply putting forward his opinion ... not being critical or derogatory at all.

Yeah, not aimed at anyone in particular, just the way the thread seemed to be heading.

Apologies to you then, James, but when I see someone else's comment quoted in a post I kinda assume the reply is targetted towards that. No offense meant :D

I downloaded a free-trial for this, wasn't overly impressed to be honest

(sorry off-topic)
