I am getting really frustrated with an image I need to pp!

I have a photo taken of my friends car, but due to the angle/ small space I had, there is a reflection of another car along its side. The problem is that my friend also has her business livery on that side.

Is there a way I can remove the livery, clone out the reflection and then put the livery back??

I cant seem to get a good result! I have never had any ps teaching so its all new to me. I am using ps elements 10, image is in RAW format.

Thanks for any advice!

Yes - here is a jpeg copyof the image - I couldnt upload a RAW for some reason.I know it needs a lot more work than just what I have mentioned - but I am getting really annoyed with the reflection!!

As you can see, its quite a large reflection, but there was little I could do about it at the time (the person who owns the car was having treatment). I tried to ensure the actual car wasnt in the image but forgot about the reflection!!

Unfortunately I cant reshoot as I dont have time. This probably wont make it on to the site as its not very good ( but I like the composition of the business livery with the building she works from in the background), so its just for me to know how to remove the reflection and replace the livery really.

Thanks.

Howzat for speedy service, this place can be great

Once again, no one's telling *how* they actually did it though. PP skills seem to be the most closely guarded secrets around.

It was answered in post 3.............cloning and healing

That is a little unfair :p In the PP thread posters have to give details, there are lots of explanations in the recent how do you do a particular frame thread - I have explained in the fisheye query and also did a brush tutorial recently, this is hardly closely guarding secrets :)

What is a closely guarded secret however is the number of hours spent practicing :D

Wasn't having a go at you Christine, honest!

In this particular thread, as often seems to happen, 'admirable' has wandered in, posted up an edited image without so much as one word and disappeared into the ether again. Not having a go at admirable either. Its just him/her in this particular thread.

If I was a n00b (what do I mean *if*?! I am a n00b!) I wouldnt know what "clone and heal" meant. Let alone where to start.

A fair point I think.

I'd tell you how it's done, but then I'd have to... No wait thats a bit drastic..... easier to just not tell you :D

Do you want me to take your hand and show where the tutorials section or would you rather I told you what to type into Google? There is a huge amount of info on the net on how to do this stuff and as I said the clue was in post three. It shouldn't hurt anyone's brain too much to source the info and watch a few clips on youtube. It would take an hour or more to describe.show someone what to do..........that's why the tutorials on this forum are so valuable........someone has taken the time to put it all together.

My pp skills are self taught and are basic compared to some on here but I've picked up little tips here and there over time. Most of what I know has started at Google.........it's your friend. :D

I didn't give more details as time was limited but it'll make me think twice about doing it again.

Good work on the PP admirable! To the OP i'd get rid of the Sky dish too.

I know what you mean admirable (not knocking you) did just hit and run, but as said in #3, and a lot of skill, it would be good for a concise method to achieve said result, I havent had a go at it but basically I would have made a selection of the the offending area colour picked my area of pref and filled it with that colour then some cloning

That is exactly what I am after - thank you Admirable!

I did try cloning and healing - but I couldnt get the smooth, shiny finish on the car that you have. I guess I need to pick my source location more carefully?

Can I ask, did you 'remove' the livery before the cloning and healing, or work around it?

thanks again - its great to know it can be done....now am off to check out the PP tutorials and get my practice on!

I didn't remove the graphics.

Message for those who wanted to know more about how photoshop works - have you seen my "brush" challenge, IF it works and members learn from it we could do something else along the same lines?

Thats a good thread there. Speaking for myself, I dont think elements has that many choices for brushes so may be not so relevant, for me.
Always good when members take the time to put up tutorials though, hope you continue to do so.

I was pondering putting up a "replacing sky" type tutorial for when you dont have a ND grad filter and take 2 images instead. To be honest though my skills are still fairly poor so don't think Im in a position to teach! :geek:

I believe you can create custom brushes in Elements as well as change angle, roundness, scatter etc so no excuse there for not experimenting :nono:
