How do you deal with Teenage Idiots

Exactly. I shudder every time I see these scum. I have an heart condition that dictates I take life very steady these days and photography is one of the few hobbies I can still enjoy. I would as likely as not have a heart attack if any of these 'people' started on me whilst I was out snapping. I do worry that the way things are getting the physically weaker among us will end up too afraid to go out - and that's not through any lack of spunk but purely because of physical ability (or lack of).

Exactly. And how many times recently have we heard about fit and healthy guys who've tried to have a go and have just ended up on a mortuary slab?

Personally i wait until they are brought into A&E drunk, strip them off and stab them with larger than necessary needles :D

and let there parents take pictures on their mobiles and send them to there friends

oh and did i mention they get a follow up from social services?

Reading through this thread I think we need to move it to a 'grumpy old men' section.

Whilst there are a lot of unpleasent kids about (and you guys seem to have encountered a lot of them), half of the problem is the media winding us all up. I walk past kids in hoods sitting on street corners smoking and it makes me nervous but sometimes I actually bother to talk to them and they are just normal kids.
Some 16 year olds ruined a movie I was watching in a cinema once. I was so annoyed I grabbed a couple of them by the throats and threatened them. I saw just how scared they were and thought to myself 'what the hell am I doing? They are just kids doing the same
as we did at that age'

Anyway this thread isn't really much to to with photography anymore.

Btw if you get called a pervert by kids (which I have done a few times) the most succesful response is 'even a pervert wouldn't want a photo of you'
Normally does the trick. Normally their friends laugh and sometimes the kid that shouted finds it quite amusing too :)

At the end of the day natural selection always wins.

..Some stuff that made sense..

Woo! Someone with a bit of common sense. Beating on / threatening kids, surprisingly, doesn't help anyone. Do people think getting in a fight with them is going to stop them kicking off on someone else next week? Also, reporting kids to police for throwing snowballs (or pretty much anything to be honest) is very very rarely going to do anything that isn't negative for all involved.

[Starts to worry the Tories are going to get back in]

I'm not even that old but from what i can garner when kids didn't think they were invincible and untouchable they weren't half as bad as they are now.

if you think you can get away with something you're more likely to do it.

if kids thought they'd get what they deserve whilst being absolute little ***** then i doubt they do it.

i see plenty of kids acting daft having a bit of fun being a bit annoying which is fair enough i'm not a complete scrooge but the ones that abuse people and are inevitably going to end up as thoroughly unpleasant adults should be schooled as hard as possible

i'm a nice human being and hate violence but if that's what it'll take to teach them then so be it.

either that or a month in a tiny damp solitary cell.

Woo! Someone who criticises everyone but doesn't come up with any kind of useful suggestion to sort the problem.

So in regards to the original problem, what would you do to solve it?

And whilst I don't actually advocate getting in a fight with them, actually I do think if someone kicks seven bells out of them, and the next person they intimidate does the same, then they may well think twice about starting on someone else next week, unless they really are as stupid as they look.

So we do nothing then ? :shake:

Very well said, only problem is most of them are as stupid as they look :D

Whilst I haven't had the time to (nor inclination) to study the problem, it is patently clear that it's one that can't be solved on an individual level. eg knocking seven bells out of a few teenagers. It's a cultural issue that would likely be resolved indirectly after larger problems were dealt with.

It won't be happening anytime soon though, the status quo is far too entrenched.

Anywho, political discussions are frowned upon round these parts, so I'll leave it at that. I'm off to take some pretty pictures. :)

As tempting as giving them a good hiding is, thats only going to get you in trouble. The littly luvvies will call plod, you'll get nicked, and they will carry on like nothing happened!
On the other hand if you call plod, they will take 3 days to turn up (if they bother at all) they won't do anything, because theres no evidence, and it's only annoyance by youths, which is more trouble than the paperwork, and the little luvvies will carry on as usual.
Your in a lose lose situation.
Untill plod starts sorting these problems out properly there is no answer..... except giving the yobs your camera, and telling plod their terrorists, in which case they will probably get shot. Wayne

Have you thought of waking up nice and early, there are no chavs about then! :)

Where I used to live, chav's would pop out of your cereal no matter how early you woke up! 'Give me a fag! C**t!

I'm a teenager, but wouldn't ever do something just for fun to a stranger if it is going to **** them off. :)
George

Ah, but the thread title is 'How to Deal With Teenage Idiots', a teenager you may be George, but an idiot you are not ;)

George

Class reply George and exactly the reason warrants are served at 7am. They are in bed and easy to find! And it's fun putting in the door when they are arrrestable. The sight of a semi naked, half asleep chav trying to figure out what all these people in black overalls are doing in their bedroom is hilarious. Seen a few literally lose bodily functions. :D

There are ways to deal with them. Ritual humiliation is one good one but you need to be prepared if they kick off. If they offer any kind of violence then it is a perfectly legitimate action to retaliate. One can follow the other in carefully controlled circumstances.

If you are not comforable with handling them, don't. There is usually one gobby ringleader and if you can deal with him/her then you do tend to be OK.

And it's nice to know Toothie is waiting for them in casualty with a nice big needle.

It's all down to society that we can't stop this behaviour. I'm nearer to 50 than 40 now and can remember being out and about with the rest of the lads but it used to be that everyone was a copper back then. If word got back to my old fella that I had stepped out a line, well it just wasn't worth it

You wouldn't dare be lippy with your elders because you would have got a clip, and the local copper new fine well he wasn't going to be dragged through the courts if he put his foot up your backside.

So now I have my kids telling me what they can do and how us oldies can't touch them and I tell them " step over the mark and and I will happily do the time" and they know fine well I mean it.

Put the power back into the hands of Parents, teachers, police etc and watch society change.

In the meantime laugh at them and tell them they wouldn't last 5 minutes and walk away

Blood back to near normal temperature.

I would have told them I work for the press and would they like theri picture in Hello magazine !!

this thread has turned out brilliant haha.

lucky in the two towns i reside in, me or my girlfriend went to school with most of these idiots, or our parents went to school with their parents etc. so they know where they stand with me and most of them are nice lads once they actually get past the angry first year or so of teenagehood.

Woohoo, my first 100-reply post.

Thanks for all the input, I tend to agree with the ritual humiliation aspect, hence me taking their photos in the first place.

Interesting to see the different ways people might handle this situation. Perhaps it's just where I live but I went out with my camera twice this last weekend and something like this happened 3 times.

It won;t stop me taking pics.

Group of people throw a snowball - generally harmless fun not really hurting anyone.

Throw one back and they kick off - if you throwing one at them annoys them so much why did they throw one at you?

Never had the misfortune of having to deal with a chav (I call the schemies) but this thread reminded me of a classic scene from a british film called Dead mans shoes.

heres the clip: Contains STRONG language:

wonder what would happen if i tried that?

Totally agree :)

and this forum really does need a grumpy old men section ;)

I am 51 this year and I have to tell you there was no 'golden age' when young people behaved themselves and respected their elders.

As a teenager I threw snowballs at cops ( they are no quicker now than the were 35 years ago ;) knocked on doors and ran away and broke the odd window with my football.

It is only our perception of yout which changes as we get older,

Plato said of young people

"What is happening to our young people
They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They
ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions.
Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"

Snow brings out the idiots more than usual. Mentioned on IRC yesterday, about 10 of em hassled my girlfriend on the way through the park yesterday, surrounded her and started throwing rubbish at her.. then they wondered why she hammered one of em in the face.

Was just round the corner of the house, burst into tears when she got home. Saw em later on and they were hassling everyone who was on their own at the entrance to the park. Difficult situation as they're normally under 18, peeps older are normally to busy working (here atleast) and getting on with life. at 18 ** still supported by ** mum so can be a little ****.

I think the boy in the grey was trying to show off to the girl behind him, typically teenage thing did he touch you at all?

Last time i had one of them sort square up to me it was in london, funny little things aren't they?

absolutely
a lot of people seem to have been wearing rose tinted glasses back in the 'good old days'. To anyone that doesnt know what good old days are, they are they days when people got an orange and a lump of coal for christmas (gimme £1 for everytime i heard that chestnut :) )

I thinbk the problem with teens is, while 30 years ago they caused mischief, today they vandalise, stab people and are more abusive.

The problem is that the retards of society are breeding more and more, and they get worse with every generation. Imagine going back to their house to meet their parents... slobs of the most disgusting variety! Beer cans everywhere, traces of coke on the cooker and used condom wrappers all over the house. How can you expect any child to grown up with a sense of respect when this is the enviroment they were brought up in?
And what about the fear factor? My dad used to give me a smack on the arse if i was bad, now if you did that you would get nicked. So you cant discipline your child when it does something wrong thus throwing the balance of right and wrong out the window.

Its the no-good people who control this country. The anti-smacking campaigners probably never have had children. Look at bloody super nanny, all this naughty step rubbish...she has never been a monther, what does she know about real discipline! I bet these "victims" of the naughty step are now out stealing cars and are fathers aged 14!

Instead of giving out ASBOs, they should dish out 6 months militry-style service. Bet that would teach the no good down-and-outs who hang around streets causing mindless chaos and violence!

And the best thing is, while the gouverment do nothing, people are out there getting killed. Look at that "Gothic" girl who was beaten to death because she defended her boyfriend after a group of mindless idiots started on them because of their appearence. When the police went to their parents to tell them what their child had done, no remorse and some were even seen smiling about it. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT?!?!?!

In some cases I think you'll find some parents actually do care, they're just to lazy to doing anything about it

If I wanted to.. I could be like that guy.. Throwing snowballs, swearing the lot... Because in all honesty my mum is to lazy to do anything...

I've been there... Had my chavy days.. And i've changed. "I saw the light"

:)

Alleluiaaa... Totally agree with MJ Retards breed intelligent people control the flow of children survival of the fittest suggest that retards will rule the world... Oh dear.

My brother was a chav and most of his mates still are and they start fights over nothing. I try and talk sense but they enjoy it which is sad to hear

Send them to Iraq or Afganistan - they'd soon grow up I reckon!!
