How do you create a tryptych ?

I have a panoramic shot that I want to turn into a tryptch.

I want to cut the image into 3 equal size pieces and print these as three portrait style prints that will be sperated by a gap but the right edge of left image should match up eaxactly with the left edge of the centre image, and the right side of centre match exactly with the left edge of the right side image.

Anyone know how best to go about that.

I have CS3 Photoshop.
 
sorry, im not sure what you are asking? I would cut the image and paste each segment as a seperate layer. I believe in CS3 you can put rules in the page so you can ensure everything is in line.
 
Cheers guys, still haven't quite got what I'm after so let me try and be a bit more specific about what I'm trying to do.

I have a Hi Res panoramic shot that is currently 48 inches wide by 12 inches high.

I want to cut the image into 3 sections 16x12 each.

Then put a black border of 2 inches around each image which will add overall 4 inches to the height and 8 inches to the width.

Then get the whole thing printed 56 inches by 16 inches

Then mounted in a custom frame.

I have 6 of these to do so I'd like to try and automate it some way.

Once thats done I want to do the same thing with splitting a single image into 9 sections (3 wide 3 high) each one a 6"by4" image.

What i'm trying to do is a bit different as its not really a tryptych as I only have 1 image to start with that I want to cut up, almost like taking a picture and cutting it into 3 pieces and the pasting it back with a gap between and around.

I've used google search and couldn't find what I was trying to do.
 
Sorry should explain

take your open image in CS3

select your slice select tool its the 2nd one (not slice tool)

an icon will appear on your image

right click the icon on your image, select divide slice, then check the vertical box put 3

now go to file save for web and devices, make sure it set on highest quality and save it it will make a folder with your 3 images in it

then use the triptych script to make your border job done

Brilliant, just what I was after

Incidently found another way of doing it in Lightroom, not as neat as this though.

I would also be tempted to use the slice tool to split it equally 3 ways and then create separate layers for each third. You can then save them all as separate images.

Using the slice tool, select the entire picture. Then right click on have it separate it in 3 equal sections. You can then highlight each section and copy and paste a new layer.

That's what I do anyway.
 
Your welcome pleased it helped, it was just the, How do you create a triptych, bit, I first thought you had the 3 images, anyway you know how to divide it into 3 equals now have fun :thumbs:
 
eh Just thought I'd update everyone, excellent support from you "Just Dave" and Cowalski's script is brilliant.

I can now take an image and turn it into a 3x3 panel image in less than 3 minutes, fan-bl**dy-tastic guys, thanks so much.

I have never done one before Dave,read the script last night and managed to produce a Tryppie.Good advice for all........:thumbs:

You guys who know how to do stuff like this amaze me................:lol:
 
Just had a welcome thanks for the panel script.

If people want to use one picture and turn it into a panel then I am sure it would be easier if I just re-wrote the script to allow this as an option :)

I will do a script that takes the one picture and get back to you........

DONE !

I will post the script tomorrow.......

Basically when you run the script it checks to see if you have an open document and if so it flattens it and then brings up this menu:

allowing you to select the options. If you do not have an open document it brings up your OSes file select window for you to select a file.

Once it has finished this is the output.

So it is now a single process and runs in 3 seconds..........

This will now be added to Script Writer 2.14 being released shortly but I will post a link to the code for this tomorrow morning or evening :)

It is 3:29 and I have been programming for several hours. I will check it more tomorrow and no doubt you lot will too. Any errors and I will sort them tomorrow.......
 
thanks for that (and the tryptych one) i get an error "file or folder not found"........cowlib\cow_library.lib

This may just be me, as I'm a bit of a photoshop noob (the tryptych one works though).

I've never tried Tryptych but have a few pics that might work quite nicely, just wish I was on my computer rather than the work one :(

looks like a nice little tool thanks for making it available for us all to use!
 
The version I uploaded last night will only work if you have Script Writer installed. I have just uploaded a new version that fixes that and also fixes the little white line on the last segment fault.

So just re-download the script
 
Just changed the default value for the borders from 80 to 20 which makes more sense and uploaded it again. Seems to be working a treat now.

Script writer will already do the above !! All you do is to design your border/background and save it as a PNG file with the areas you want your picture to show though in transparent. Then use the graphical border script and hey presto, just like that in 5 seconds :)
 
Ah but this was done in one go Darren, the openings were auto generated, photo auto sized to fit, etc. etc.

Script Writer would do it in one go too. Just create your backdrop with its transparent holes and then script writer will do it from the scripts menu including re-sizing etc. :)
 
That's the thing Darren, yours requires that I do a lot of work first to achieve to final product.

But it is also more flexible because you can have different layouts etc :)
