I thought it just made you fat and sluggish? Lol.

Come on, back on track!

There is only one way to cook perfect rice and I don't care what anyone else says. ;)

Always use basmati - it is not called the king of rice's for nothing.

Soak the rice for 30 mins in cold water. This is such an important step it cannot be missed if you want properly fluffy rice.

Rince in lots of cold water until water runs clear. Put rice in pan with JUST under twice as much water as rice and bring to the boil with the lid on.

Turn heat down as low as possible. On a gas cooker cheat and turn it backwards past the minimum aside you're going to turn it off. The heat has to be very low to stop the grains breaking up.

Seal the lid. A properly fitting lid is vital. Ours all have those stupid vent holes so I fold up kitchen towel, wet it and seal them.

LEAVE ALONE for ten minutes exactly. Turn off the heat and leave for another min or two.

Fluff up with fork and enjoy the best rice you've ever had.

:)

Throw on some cardamom pods and it'll be ultra wicked.

I eat rice 4-5 times a week and used to use the pan method but have used a rice cooker for a few years now and it is fool proof.

I always eat decent quality basmati (tilda or kohinoor) and add a bit more water than recommended. You don't have to keep an eye on it and it is perfect every time.

I have let property to many Chinese students over the years and they all have rice cookers.

I should maybe eat a little less rice as I am becoming a bit fat and sluggish ;)

hey Mrbez, is it white or brown rice you eat?

I've always ignored the "2 cups of water per cup of rice" method.......

Put a portion of rice in a fairly large saucepan, fill the saucepan with as much boiling water from the kettle as you sensible can then heat til it boils and turn the heat down so it simmers.

It'll take around 10 mins of simmering but check it periodically by taking out a few grains and testing them. As soon as they no longer feel "gritty" it's done.

Rinse with boiling water and you're done :)
:plusone:

Spot on for me, works every time. Plenty of water on a gentle rolling boil & keep cehcking it until it's done to your taste. Drain & rinse with fresh boiling water.

Does anyone else think it is sad that we can get over 90 posts on how to cook rice ,yet many posters of images stuggle to get more than a handful if they are lucky.

Perhaps we should become "talkee ricee much ,much? :)

Don't use so much water that you have to drain the rice: you'll risk getting beriberi ;)

Ah, but there's only 1 thread on rice but loads on photos, cumulatively I bet the images win. :bonk:

I'm neither of those. I originally posted on page 2 with my rice cooking style.:p

I wondered why theres so many posts on cooking rice, cant believe its turned into a massive argument, thats helped the OP no end :(

Depends what type of rice..

Basmati is my favorite. First off, wash the rice as much as you can. When you've done this, measure the rice out. One cup of rice = 2 cups of water. Cold water. Turn on the heat and leave until boiling. When the water has evaporated to under the level of the rice, put the top on the pan, and switch it off.

Leave to steam for about 10 minutes, then check it. If all the water has evaporated, it's; cooked :)
