How do you clean your camera bag?

I have a Lowepro Lens trekker 600 ll which I use for my camera and 500 f4 VR and it has got grubby from muddy marks and bird poo!
I obviously don't want to damage the bag or try something that is ineffective, so I'm wondering what you guys have found to be effective and safe to use.
 
I think it will probably depend on what the bag is made from, a cardboard-backed foam type reinforced base probably won't take too kindly to a good soak in a washing machine. Also, if you do decide to risk a wet clean, ensure the bag is thoroughly dried out and 'aired' well afterwards, otherwise you could end up with a small mushroom farm going on inside it!

Maybe have a look on the bag manufacturer's website to see if there are any cleaning instructions, or drop them an email and ask?

Try a spray on fabric cleaner and a soft brush to gently agitate then wipe down with a microfibre cloth.
 
If it says sponge off marks, don't bother it won't shift anything remotely stuborn.

Never had any problems machine washing, I do use the handwash programme and give the spin dry a miss, much prefer hanging it out on the line
 
Outside gets an occasional wipe down with a damp cloth (and a harder scrub with a wetter one for deeper ingrained crud!) while the inside gets Hoovered out with a Henry and a wipe down if necessary.
 
Helpful thoughts guys, thanks ... I hadn't thought about the possibility of cardboard so will need to make some checks.

Just the way I do both of my bags, plus sometimes I will use a nailbrush for heavy stains :)
 
I'm another user of the washing machine. I don't have that many camera bags, nor do they need cleaning very often, but when they do they go in the machine.

Only exception is my leather bag which is not allowed to get dirty in the first place.
