So I'm clearing out the office/store on having sold the business so over a week ago I ordered an enclosed skip for the rubbish - delivery for this morning.
Okay so almost mid-day so I give them a ring ...
"Oh well we haven't got one available" ...
"but I ordered it over a week ago for delivery this morning!" ...
"Ah we've got one in a yard but we can't find anyone with a key to pick it up".

How do they make enough to pay for their yellow pages adverts?

Have you paid up front for it?

Refund, s*** list and use another firm (if possible).

Yes refund issued and another booked for tomorrow .... we'll see! :(

About time you retired, more time for photography! Enjoy it Gramps, I am!

I can wholly recommend retirement - as early as possible! Retirement is wasted on the elderly.

Oi!! I resemble that remark! :p

I'm assuming the enclosed part is essential for your waste. If it's not, search for Hippo Bag. We've had great service from them.

I suspect you have confidential waste though.

If you have it could be time to have a nice fire. (all my offices confidential shredding goes on the bonfire - rather that than trusting some firm which probably uses minimum wage employees who might be tempted to use the info for nefarious purposes)

On the past two occasions I've hired a skip, the first got filled up overnight with other people's waste and the 2nd got emptied and strewn all over the front by an idiot who was sitting in the middle of it checking for anything useful - though at least the arrival of the police got him picking everything up and re-filling the skip.

No really confidential stuff.

On the other hand, annoying though it is, you could be the first person they've let down in a decade. ;)

Unfortunately they'll just charge the hire cost to the person who owns the yard since they can show that they really did have a customer for the skip. This means they'll not be out of pocket and probably even that they are also an innocent party who have been let down on this occasion. Now we may not believe a word of this, but the skip company haven't been named and shamed, so they'll not see any reputational risk from this event and will carry on as usual. Very frustrating!

In which case they should have phoned Gramps to apologise for letting him down so he could make other arrangements.

Indeed.

Well 2nd company delivered, albeit late, so at least I've been able to get on with starting the clearout ... amazing what I've found :D

Any old banknotes you want shredding? Free of charge, I'll pick them up. :sneaky:

How Do some..... etc

Saw an advert on the Tele for "Rated People" send then details of a Job you want doing and Trades people reply!!!
1st Job, Landscape Garden 173 tradesmen viewed not 1 called me.
2nd Job Tile Kitchen Floor 53 Viewed not 1 called me
"Rated People" texted me to ask how I got on, my answer a little on the Rude side.

So I answer 3 Adverts in Local Paper (landscape) 2 never turned up to give estimate, the third one took 3 weeks to turn up, then another 3 weeks to reply with estimate and because I was out promised Wife he would call back next day. 4 weeks later still no call.

Doesn't help you, but itr is at least nice to know it's not just tradesmen in this area that are next to useless!
