How do others store ther kit,

Hi Graeme. I got my kit supplied in a large bag when I bought from Elemental. There is a similar one on ebay:

However, I think I am going to opt for a more square type bag for the flash heads as the bag I have doesn't offer any real protection to the heads (just keep everything in the same bag), and a seperate bag for the stands if that makes sense.

Nice images on Flickr by the way - just added you ;)

Peli case - chuck it in a cupboard.

2 Smartflash and cables fit snugly into a Storm im2500 http://waterproof-cases.co.uk/peli_storm_im2500_airline_carry_on_case-p-531_546.html

You might be able to wriggle a couple of nano stands and double fold umbrellas in there. Mine has put up with a LOT of abuse.

What he said :) I use Peli Cases all the time now its just so much neater & easier then farting about with the soft cases they don't stack, don't protect you kit very well, you can't stand on them and use them as a little ladder, can't abuse the soft cases like you can with a Peli (not that i do but if you wanted too lol).

Peli are not cheap but they get the job done and you'll have the case forever.

Yeah got a nice big heavy bag for my Bowens kit and that fits nicely in the cupboard.

Main heads are in an alloy flight-case with leads and standard reflectors, back-up lights are in a hard poly travels case & portable stands in stand bag, non-portable ones stacked on the floor. I have a wheeled trunk that contains all the ‘grip stuff’ spigots, litetites, superclamps, gaffer & masking tape, flexible arms, extension lead, et. al. A second wheeled trunk holds effects shapers; snoots, Fresnel spot, background reflectors, gels and so on, a small flight-case holds triggers, meters, spare bulbs, fuses and another small flight-case holds spare leads – these are dotted around the room in various locations. Brollies, softboxes, speedrings are stored on shelves in individual bags/cases, beauty dishes are hung from the same shelves and various clamps (not in the ‘grip’ trunk are clamped to the shelves. Large reflectors 6x3 and 3x3 are leaning against a bookcase at present with my 2x4 polystyrene ‘gobos’ attached to stands in front. Paper vinyl backgrounds are on the Expan system supported on Autopoles, this also supports a bar with some cloth backgrounds. Unused cloth backgrounds are in ‘stuff sacks’ store on shelves, as I’m happy with a random wrinkle effect!

Both the Bowes sets I have came with really sturdy cases that have wheels and carry handles. They are big enough to carry all the stands and leads with a standard reflector and a collapsed soft box.

Calumet used to do a similar range, not sure on prices though.

I like the idea of these but there expensive, is there any cheaper alternatives, say from screwfix or some where similar?

Yes - you could also get some plastic bags from Tesco ;)

Srsly - I resisted buying Pelis for a long time because of their cost and weight. They really are one of those cases where you get what you pay for.

Keep an eye on eBay - they often come up 2nd hand. And they are always good as new.
