Can you guys help please,

I want to name the fifty or so people in a group photograph and I thought to have the photo in outline or totally black (shadow) and the people numbered and then listed underneath but I've no idea where to start. I know I've seen it done but just don't know where or how.

Thanks in anticipation
David.

It's all done with layers. In PS7 if you select the Text tool it will create a new layer for you - you then just type in the number or other text & hit enter. You can then move each text layer around the image individually. When it's all done just flatten the image & save.
Good luck!

If you mean altering the whole image so as it is in black (I presume that you mean as in a school portrait style thing so as you can look back & have a list of everyone in the photo?) then I think it would get a bit complicated due to the amount of people - you would have to separate each silhouette with a slight border or fine white line. The way that I'd do it would be to:

1. Make the selections of each person (each on new layer) use layer masks for precision or just the pen tool.
2. Fill the selection with black
3. Move to the next layer & repeat
4. Subtract the original silhouette from the newer one & then vice-versa (note the order)
5. Stroke each silhouette with colour of your choice
6. Phil has already explained the text thing

Just shout out if this wasn't what you were after & I'll see if I can better understand what you mean

Ok Guys thanks... Unfortunatley it is like a school group portrait except it's all men, so it may be a drawn out affair. I'll start tonight and see if I can't make something of it.
God loves a trier....

Tnx
David.

Representing each person with kind of a general figure may not look too bad then David if it's in that style - without it sounding weird, why not do the figures in a "ladies & gents" style with just a general shape - don't think anyone is going to really be looking at the silhouettes in detail are they?

How about IMAGESKILL OUTLINER, sorry dont have link, try google, its a plugin for PS. You can play around with contrast then hit go! Et Voila.
Dean:)

Well spotted Dino........ Just the job.

Tnx
David.
