How do I trigger a 580EXII off camera?

Im just doing some experimentation at the moment and am wondering how to fire my 580EXII off camera. I will not be using any other flash on my 5DMKII so I understand that some kind of device will be required to trigger the flash which will probably be mounted on a shelf close by.
Any advice appreciated..

Wireless radio triggers, or a cable! Go see flash in the pans thread in the forum advertisers section!

I have Skyports which I use to trigger my Elinchrom studio lights. I know that i could put one on top of my hotshoe but how could I trigger the 580EXII flash using this?

Just got a wireless transmitter and receiver from flash in the pan. Seems to work well.

Right I have connected a skyport to the flash with a sync lead and it will trigger when i push the 'test' fire button. However even with another skyport on the camera it will not fire the flash. I have swapped the triggers around and they both work fine. They are also on the same group setting. Any ideas?
