Hi,

I'm moving to a new PC and was wondering if you could please help with the migration process.

I backed up my old PC LR catalog to the backup folder and have a full backup of all my photos.

I've already installed LR4 on my new PC.

Next i will copy all my photos to the new PC and the backup of the LR catalog.

Once everything is in place on my new PC how do i tell LR about the images i've previously worked on and the backed up catalog file ?

TIA,
Mike.

Lightroom should find the catalogue on the new drive, although I only use macs so can only go from previous experience on that OS.

It's worth going into LR catalogue settings once everything is in place - it should give you the exact location of the catalogue it's linking to. If it's the right one then everything should show up fine. If not, I think you can tell it which catalogue to use.

Moving from one PC to another is exactly the same as with Mac's. In fact you can migrate the files from a PC to a Mac easily or vice versa

Ideally you want to have all the images on the new PC in exactly the same location as the old one. Then copy the complete library folder to the new PC and put it in the same location. Now when you start up on the new PC Lightroom will opt for it's default directory. If this is not the one you want to use the simply go to File > Open Catalogue, and navigate to to the catalogue you want.

Wouldn't this be better in computer section?
