Yes
I have an idea for a picture in my mind, but am not sure as to how to light it.
I want a sort of a "hazy" picture of a child blowing a dandelion, in half profile.

My guess would be to shoot with difused backlight, but I guess I am going to need fill flash to get some light on the face.

So here are my questions:

1. Is that correct? Because if not, all the rest of the questions don't really matter ;).

2. I have a speedlite 430EX. Will that work with a remote trigger? Because to get the fill flash in the face, I would have to put my flash on a tripod. Or should I just position a reflector to her face and aim my flash at the reflector?

3. Do I compensate the flash exposure? Or do I just set it to normal strenght?

4. To get a hazy backlight, is it enough to get some filtered sun from behind, or would I be best to use a difuser (I have one in my 5 in 1 reflector set).

Thanks!!!!

Natural diffused sunlight at the right time of day is the best way - if you can get the right light it should work. I probably wouldn't use fill flash - if there is a haze in the air the flash will bounce around and kill the effect. Try a diffuser.

If I had to do this today - then I would use flash in line with the nose or maybe slightly behind the subject and use a Hazer to produce the haze!! Remember these questions about flash compensation are hard to answer because they need answered at the time you are taking the shot! You can check on your screen after each shot and make a decision based on what you see.
