Using special "man-logic", I have worked out that purchasing a new 1D Mark IV could save me £1800.
A 1DIV will cost approx £4500, which should drop after launch, but say I get one on launch day. It has 16mp versus my 1DIII's 10mp. The additional resolution will enable me to crop in tighter to my photos so I could get down to a cropped resolution of 10mp and have the same resolution as my 1DIII.
Therefore, I dont need to buy a 400 2.8 costing £6300, thus saving £1800. I can still use my 300 2.8 and get better "reach" which will be pretty much equivalent to using a 400 2.8 on a 1DIII. Most sports photographers use a 400 2.8 as their standard lens of choice, with a second body carrying a 70-200.
Of course, if the 1DIV drops in price after launch which is surely will, the saving becomes even larger.
Great news for us all!
