Hi guys and girls. Bit of a random request but does anyone have any Box Brownie type camera to hand and could give me some measurements from them? I'm specifically looking for the Width/Height of the large flat side and the total depth of the camera from one side to the other

They don't need to be exact, just want to see if it would fit an idea i'm working on ;0)

Looks like you're as bad as me with projects, can't finish one before starting the next!

Whilst you are of course right Rob, who said this was for a new project ;0) Just had an idea after talking about reclaimed timber for manufacturing my Lightblock, why not reclaimed cameras? Whilst it takes a certain someone to sit a 5x4 Chamonix on their desk to display slides, a box camera is a much more manageable size :0)

It can't not be a project with you...
I can't talk though, I'm in the process of designing a TV stand, a centre speaker for my surround sound and a desk lamp whilst converting some garage space into a useable workshop.

The reclaimed camera idea is certainly interesting, would look nice with a nice rustic pine with some character!

Lol, guilty as charged mate. I can't help having an active mind :0)

Good luck with your Av upgrade..have you considered a veneer?

I've tried veneering in the past with varying levels of success, I'm actually thinking of making the box from laminated slices of plywood with the grain exposed. Then topped off with some Danish oil and clear varnish. The effect being something like this: http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd469/robhooley167/3.54_zpsqz5rxppi.png (Linked as it's a still I've chopped from a video)

I like the look of exposed laminated ply and you've got the added benefit of serious strength with no flex which will be great for the centre speaker. Then again, you could just make a wine rack like your still shot and not worry about and AV unit :0)

There's always that...

Does this help?

Same here. I recently did some work on my folding field camera and realised that it was a year since I last worked on it!

Steve.

Sorry Steve and Thorton, I've just realised that I missed your posts. I was considering building a 6x4 or slightly smaller Lightbox into the side frame of a box camera so it would need to be large enough to accommodate that. I could also build a slightly smaller frame to accommodate a single 6x6 slide as a way of combining both the camera and displaying its output in the same unit.

I've just got a sample led circuit through from a Chinese supplier so I'll come back to the box camera idea once I've built my first complete SlideBlock.

Cheers
Steve
